Flood control plan promises big county benefits
Pontotoc County farmers may gain an annual net benefit exceeding a half million dollars under flood control protection. The County Soil Conservation Office in Ada announced plans covering 330,488 drainage acres across seven watersheds. Construction of 5 floodwater retardation dams and 125 small lakes at a total estimated cost of 5.8 million dollars is slated to protect 26,921 bottomland acres. The system aims to store 8,900 acre feet of floodwater and release it to prevent overflow, with 260 man-years of labor and 12 sponsor man-years for installation. Continued on Page Two.

Five Pontotac County 4H boys Larry Yeargar Roff Richard Bailey Allen Charles Brady Latta Joe Mall Vaness and Dewey Madden Stonewall attended the Oklahoma City State Fair 4H Educational Conference held Monday and Tuesday. They earned expense paid trips and joined sessions in live stock poultry crops horticulture and 4H leadership study. The Agricultural Stabilization office set a Oct. 5 deadline for ASC committee election ballots return with the public ballot on Oct. 9 at the County ASCS office. The three regular members and two alternates will elect a chairman vice chairman and regular member to serve as delegates at the county convention. Eligible voters include legal voting age individuals with an farm interest whether owner tenant or sharecropper and those supervising an entire farm. Each voter has one vote per ballot and eligibility extends to joint ownership cases with some voting limits.
