Government forecasters see a milk production rise in 1970 reversing a six year decline. USDA notes larger herd replacements, easing labor, and strong prices support a small gain from 1969 levels, with per cow output offsetting fewer cows. Domestic consumption remains flat as imports rise.
County ASCS chairman B. B. Ownbey announces September 1 mailings for farm voters to choose up to three candidates or write ins. Ballots must be signed and returned by September 11. votes tabulated September 4 at 9:00 AM in the ASCS Office. Nine county communities elect three committee members and two alternates each.
Oklahoma City AP report on Gary Christmas, a former El Reno High student denied a diploma due to long hair. He sought court-ordered mail delivery of his diploma or permission to attend graduation. Judge Bohzton denied, with Christmas awaiting transcripts but lacking a diploma. appeal planned to the 10th Circuit.
The Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission enacted falconry regulations. A license may be issued to anyone 12 or older after a written exam. ages 12 to 18 require sponsorship by an adult licensee. Licenses expire Jan 1 annually and may be renewed without exam if competency is shown. A falcon may not be sold or transported without a state permit. Fees are 10 dollars. Restrictions limit to three falcons per holder, with ages 12–13 allowed one bird.

An 80 year old Stonewall man sustained minor injuries in a three car accident at 8th and Mississippi Wednesday at 10 31 am. Cager Hisaw 80 of Stonewall drove west on 6th and failed to yield at a stop sign colliding with a car driven by Earl E McKendree 700 Constant traveling south. Hisaw’s car then struck Lillie Zora Clark 218 E 12th who was stopped to make a left turn. Hisaw’s vehicle left the street, hit a tree and he was treated by a local physician. He forfeited a $10 bond in Municipal Court on the yield right of way charge.
Ada police promote two captains and two sergeants as Chief Lester Hokit names Richard Gray and Don Henderson as captains and Bill Smith and Bob Linker as sergeants. One new officer, Bob Williams, fills vacancy from retirement of Lewis Kroth.
Gov George Nigh announced Boswell in Choctaw County will host a major portion of the Universal Pictures film Two Lane Blacktop. A 45 member crew will arrive in Durant September 14 for 10 days of shooting, with 90 percent on location near Boswell. Star lineup includes James Taylor Lori Bird Warren Oats, directed by Monte Hellman. Nigh predicts a $10 million industry and says further film announcements are coming as Oklahoma lures moviemakers.
The Ada Arabian Show netted 1800 for McCall's Chapel charity at AIP. Dr. Jack Nance, chairman and state association president, reported the event drew 140 horses across eight stalls. After expenses, 1800 remained for school use.
Fresh lettuce prices in Oklahoma City have doubled over the past week, with officials warning other vegetables will rise. The spike is blamed on a farm worker strike in southern California, centered in Salinas Valley, led by Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers.
Ada attorney Mike Smith joined the manhunt for brothers Nicholas Worcester Jr. and Willard Lea Worcester after they escaped custody en route to arraignment for automobile larceny. Smith pursued through streets and alleys, flagging a mail truck for help before continuing on foot. Jailer Coy Young captured Will Worcester while Sgt. Bill Smith found Nick Worcester hiding in tires behind Bates Tire Co.
Pontotoc County commissioners and the excise board approved a total general fund budget of 242,459.02 for 1970 71, down from 347,631 54 in 1969 70. The budget shows minor department changes. surplus cash carried over fell from 29 912 37 to 16 146 75. The health department budget remains funded by a separate two mill levy.
