Ninety Compete In County Land Judging Contest
Ninety county students competed as individuals and learning members for honors in the Pontotoc County Land Judging School and Contest held at Latta. Eight junior 4H clubs, two senior 4-H clubs and three FFA chapters participated before county and state conservationists. Latta earned high individual honors in 4-H, earning a spot in the national contest in April 1962.

Vanoss High School FFA will present a one minute TV show on KWTV channel 9 Oklahoma City December 9 as guests of station. Pat Gallup will lead and interview the FFA members Dale Gray Bob Wood Mike Tiffin Glen Wood Lynn Wood Garry Gray and Doug Stinson. The subject to be presented will be announced later and aims to inform viewers statewide about Oklahoma farming.

Scout Units Win Awards For Exhibits At Ada Armory
A large Ada crowd attended the Scout O bama event at the Ada Armory where three Ada troops earned top prizes for outstanding booths. The First Methodist Church Troop 13 won the presidential ward for basketry merit, led by Bill Tinsley as Scoutmaster and A. F. Settle as sponsor. Explorer Post No. 4, sponsored by First Christian Church Ada, earned a ward for its Civil Defense booth with Glen Showen as adviser. Cub Pack No. 3 Den L of Washington School with rope exhibits, led by cubmaster W. W. Collins, and det motrices Mrs. Twyla Horne and Mrs. Marcella Parrott also received recognition. Top ticket salesman Joe Badgett of Troop 88 earned a trip to Carlsbad Caverns for Scout-O-Rama. Cub Scout Joe Sherrer of Pack 58 also earned a place. Runners-up included Ronald Mullins, Pack 68, Ada. Terry Hazelwood, Troop 200, Ada. and Dennis Cook, Troop 6, Ahloso. Scout executive Ken Lafferty noted awards were presented based on booth quality and merit.

Maloy Family Adopts Dairying To Grow Their Farm
Gene Maloy recalls switching from cotton farming to dairying nine years ago with help from county agent Cy Hailey. The 330 acre operation now milks 43 cows daily with 100 milk cows and replacements, self funding their facilities, building a new home and modernizing barns, ponds, and fences while keeping strict herd culling based on butterfat production.

Officials Scout Sites for Water Pollution Lab Here
Ralph C. Palange of the Department of Health Education and Welfare toured possible sites with Chamber of Commerce members and East Central State College leaders as site selection for the Southwestern Regional Water Pollution Field Laboratory moves forward. A decision is expected in early 1962 with planning showing a $2.5 million facility housing about 150 staffers, including engineers and scientists, and civil service employment open to local residents after testing.
