McDaniels Begins Test On Bulls At Ranch

Glen McDaniels south of Roff enters the Oklahoma cattle weight performance testing program. He has erected scales and a three acre feeding area for 140 days of hand fed bulls, aiming to verify weight gain and identify top performers among his Herefords.

Peace Corps Exams Set for Pontotoc

Examinations for Peace Corps will be held at Ada Post Office on November 28 and 29. B U I McCollum, a local postal employee and civil service examiner, will administer. Open to any person with at least a high school education. men and women eligible, married couples as young as 16 without children. Two year basic service abroad after indoctrination and training.

State Files Suits For Land Here

The state Highway Department begins eminent domain action to acquire about 108 acres for the Ada by pass from State Highways 1 and 99. Attorney Max Cook filed condemnation suits in District Court on disputed land, with 43.5 acres already conveyed. A three-member board will appraise value and damages, and possession may be taken after depositing the award. Both sides have 30 days to accept or reject the judgment and 60 days to demand a jury trial.

Rancher Offers 200 Dollar Reward for Cattle Rustlers

In Murray County a rancher authorized by Curtis Franks north of Sulphur offers a 200 dollar reward to anyone providing information leading to the recovery of 16 head taken from several ranches. Cattle branded Z or Bar I on the right hip were stolen near a loading chute by an unoccupied house on the Franks spread during the last heavy rain, drawing sheriff patrols into the back roads.

Yearling Registers Top Gain in Moore Angus Herd

HH Moore of Sotnewall showcases top gaining Angus bulls mainly Bardolier bred with various dam lines. Big Elban of Moore weighed 920 pounds at 278 days in the feedlot, while sire C M Elean Barba reached 1800 pounds as a three year old. Moore reports consistent 203 day adjusted weights and active participation in performance testing.

Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Ninth Convention Held

The Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association held its ninth annual convention December 5-6 at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City. About 300 ranchers were expected. Topics included Differences in the Beef Carcass Feeder Calves for the Corn Belt and Livestock Prices in 1962. Featured speaker was Tom Anderson editor of Farm and Ranch magazine noted for his candid agricultural commentary.

Ada Church Plans Special Thanksgiving Service

The First Lutheran Church of Ada will observe the National Day of Thanksgiving with a 10 a.m. service on Thursday. The program follows Festival of Harvest liturgy with congregational hymns, a responsively read psalm, and Pastor Rev. Charles Conner preaching on "Bless the Lord, Thy God" from Deuteronomy 8:10. Families are invited to attend at Lutheran Church, Stadium Road and Highteenth Street.

County Ranchers Endorse New Brucellosis Program

Pontatoc County cattle owners form a six member committee to promote a three year Brucellosis Bangs vaccination and backtag testing plan. The group will seek Oklahoma City sign‑offs for a county wide program with vaccination of replacement heifers, backtagging of slaughter cows, and blood testing to guide eradication efforts.
