4-H Members Win Awards At Annual Achievement Dinner
Pontotoc County 4-H members Cheryl Melton and James Lucas headlined a county achievement dinner. Melton, Vanoss senior, and Lucas, Roff senior, received Hall of Fame recognition for outstanding 4-H work, with Melton’s record including 92 projects and leadership roles. The ceremony in East Central College’s Terrace Room drew a capacity crowd as county businesses and awards presenters honored top 4-H performers from Ada, Vanoss, Roff, and surrounding areas.

James William Stegall a Stonewall area resident since 1908 died at 8 30 pm Tuesday in a local hospital He came to Frisco in 1908 from Blanco County where he was born March 12 1875 He married Isabelle Durbin November 3 1897 and they observed their 64th wedding anniversary in 1961 Surviving are his wife three sons a daughter two brothers and two sisters The obituary continues on page two

Ada Council weighs clinic sale and traffic study plan
Ada City Council discussed Sage Clinic’s bid to reacquire its former site and authorized an engineering study of city streets and traffic. The session also endorsed a major traffic problem study and let the city manager and mayor contract with an engineering firm and the Oklahoma State Highway Commission. Separately, Pontotoc County 4 H Club members began a 180 day beef project under Emerson Black, each raising two to five steers, with costs tracked for eventual local sale and dressed carcass comparison.

Fire destroys home of Midland woman Mrs Pederson
Fire struck early Wednesday afternoon, gutting Mrs. Chris Pederson's Midland home after apparent hot wiring sparked the blaze. Pederson, inside with her five year old son, barely escaped as flames spread quickly to the foundation, leaving only sundry items and a television set. B. B. Ownbey of Vaness arrived first, finding Pederson beside the smoldering ruins.

Bus Driver Bunyard Marks 25 Years With Roff Schools
Bunyard, a Roff school bus driver, recently celebrated 25 years of service in which he drove about 60 miles daily, made 22 stops, and avoided any serious accidents. He received a safety award from Richard Swink, superintendent, as peers recalled icy roads, abandoned pickups, and late arrivals while transporting rural children.

Rancher Finds K. R. Bluestem Versatile Grass
East of Ada farmer W. T. Shelton touts K. R. Bluestem as a profitable and erosion resistant grass. He planted 80 acres in May 1960, harvested 842 bales of hay in September, and 1296 bales this year. Seed yield totaled 800 pounds valued at about 1600 dollars, with seed harvested by standard grass seed methods. The experiment relied on Soil Conservation, expert advice, and careful seed bed preparation to prove the grass’ economic value and erosion control.
