Industry figures question the Johnson administration's new dairy program aimed at production quotas for fluid milk. Supporters argue federal orders stabilize prices and supplies, while critics fear tighter regional milk markets could raise consumer costs amid the omnibus farm bill.
Pecan food exhibits for adults and juniors are featured at the annual show to be held December 2 at Bowie Ballard Ford Co in Ada. Adult divisions include pecan pies cakes leaf cakes and various pecan breads and confections. Junior entries include pecan brownies cookies candy and cake. Premiums are sponsored by First National Bank and Oklahoma State Bank of Ada. Entries open to Pontotoc County residents. premium lists available at the County Extension Office.
Byng Oklahoma celebrates a new Ada water connection with a 8 inch main to Municipal Airport and a 6 inch spur to Colbert area. The project serves 167 families funded by an FHA loan and a supplementary loan. Local officials include Marvin Stokes Carl Steele and J E Teague with Congressman Tom Steed and State FHA director Clark McWhorter present.
The Ada Farm and Ranch Club held an appreciation banquet at the First Methodist Church for retiring Pontotoc County Agent Cy Hailey who left the post Nov 16 after 25 years. J D Netherton will replace him in Idabel. Notables included Lee Craig Ed Chambers Ellis Freeny and Frank Milsap.
A Byars area horse breeder, Red Farms owner-trainer Farris, operates 14 thoroughbreds on 416 acres. He plans year round racing in New Orleans after a disrupted season due to a hurricane. A late season rope accident injured a top horse, now recovering for next year.
