Feeder Pig Boosters Form Livestock Association
A two-county hog breeders group met in the courthouse to form the Pentcote and Coal County Livestock Association. It aims to schedule two feeder pig sales annually in May and October with 1 000 pigs offered at each sale and 600 already consigned for the first sale tentatively set for next May. The initiative benefits both producers and purchasers by offering uniform lots of pigs and other animals of similar age and weight for better prices.

LIGHTNING RIDGE A heifer calf born Saturday to a Mellroy cow was found in a deep ravine by McTroy while the mother stood on the bank nursing it. The Mellroys named the calf Sputnik. They noted Sputnik went down instead of up as a playful expression.

Tractor tragedy near Vanoss claims Ada man Pedersen
Chris Pedersen a 73 year old farm operator from Ada route 5 died in a tractor accident on his farm near the Vanoss community. Investigators say the tractor toppled backward as he attempted to cross a creek bank, trapping him beneath the rear wheels. Pedersen had been driving to work a pecan grove and returned home when the fatal mishap occurred. Deputies from the county sheriff's office reported he died instantly and were to determine further details.

County Polio Needs Take up 13 000 in57
The Pontotor County chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis has spent over 13000 this year aiding local polio cases. Mrs Mary West chair outlined the local situation at a pre campaign March of Dimes planning meeting in the Aldridge Hotel. About 20 county workers and committee chairmen met to plan the 1958 drive marking the 20th anniversary of the organization. Oliver Parker urged a successful campaign as vaccine use lowers new cases nationally but active cases remain. Reynolds described uses of the national chapter funds and local division share for research and equipment.

Services Held Wednesday For Accident Victim
Hubert Wesley Turner 46 of Stonewall died after a two car crash on State Highway 152 west of Binger. He died in Anadarko hospital Tuesday after being injured Sunday night. Services were Wednesday at Stonewall First Baptist Church with burial in Stonewall Cemetery. survived by his mother and sisters Sybie Bloxham Maudie Story Gladys Davidson Helen Hickman.
