Pontotoc County tag agent Ed Moore announces that car owners can reserve any desired license tag number from now until November 30 by bringing the car title and a check to his office. Regular sale of 1956 licenses starts Monday, December 12.
A bumper pecan year prompts Ada to host the first county pecan show in years. Oklahoma State Bank sponsors the event in the county agent's office on December 1 and 2 with ribbons cash prizes and awards for 20 pecan varieties and related nuts. County Agent C H Haney notes prize-winning exhibits advance to the state.
The Fitzhugh School pie supper on Friday November 11 in the gym raised 226 dollars for the community Christmas tree fund. Barbara Morrow won prettiest girl. Nancye Elliott and Bill Clarke were named most lovesick couple. Kerri Felkins was titled most henpecked man.
A pie supper is set for Monday November 28 at 7 30 p m at Summers Chapel School. Proceeds support the annual community Christmas tree with performances by the school's girls glee club.
According to County Agent C. H Hailey serious weevil infestations in stored grain have been reported in parts of Pontotoc County. He urges farmers to check for infestations and notes fumigation as the best control. A mix of 80 percent carbon tetrachloride and 20 percent carbon disulfide is recommended, applied at three to five ounces per bushel. Handle fumigants with care and air seed 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
The Ada Junior Chamber of Commerce honored six county 4-H members at a banquet at the Aldridge Hotel Ada presenting $50 bonds to first place winners and $25 to runners up in both boys and girls divisions. Winners include Frankye Sullivan Wanda Young Patricia Tiffin Michael Lucas David Calvert Darrel Bryant. State Junior Chamber president Gerald Bradshaw praised the program as a potential statewide effort. The scoring system covers a full year from November 1 to October 31 and judges activities from county to state fairs and leadership projects. A total of 159 boys and 125 girls were recognized.
