In Pontotoc County, Stevenson led with 5930 votes to Hisehower 4814. Democrats dominated the contests with Montoney over McKeever 6777 to 3584, Steed 6875 over Potter 3121, and Freeman 7236 defeating Kinkaid 2661 for corporation commissioner. About 10 000 county voters participated, below early turnout hopes, with both state questions rejected and redistricting proposal 357 failing 4191 to 3754.

Ada Fire Destroys Granger Building in Downtown
A five year’s worst blaze in Ada gutted the Granger building on East Main between Broadway and Rennie early Saturday. Fire crews battled for about three hours, with $179,000 damage and smoke and water heavily affecting Cook’s Paint Store MH and M Diner and Dub Lindsey’s shop. Second floor dental offices of Dr H D Hall and Martin Tennis lab were in the structure. Mrs. Luther Thompson alerted authorities after a signal light failed to get a response. Fire chief Billy Ellis reported the blaze was discovered shortly before 3 am by the Hand Mainer's operator and Homer Gosnell, who alerted police and summoned help. Firefighters confined the fire to the building.

Annual Eastern Oklahoma Singing Convention will be held in Ada at Science Hall Mast Central State College on Saturday and Sunday November 10 and 11. Pontotoc County 4-H held a pasture and range judging contest in Ada with 30 attendees. Top four were George Breeding of Roff first Jerald Barton of Fitzhugh second and Mike Lucas and James Lucas of Roff tied for third, forming the county team for future contests. Clarence E. Bunch from Stillwater led the school highlighting grass identification and pasture quality, using color pictures and exam segments on range plant identification and conditions.
