First County Wool Sales Hit Over Twenty Thousand Pounds
County agent C. H. Hailey reports the first Pontotoc County consolidated wool market on May 20 sold about 20 000 pounds of wool at the Administration Building fairgrounds starting 10 a m. Texas Wool Company scouts Faulkner and Weir gathered several thousand more. Sheep producers also begin selling lambs now with prices around 22 to 23 cents and incentive payments for wool and lambs boost income this year.

Oats and Vetch Pasture Pays Off for Smith
Howard Smith, Latta dairyman and Pontotoc County Soil Conservation District cooperator, planted oats and vetch on 32 acres last October. From Nov 20 1954 to May 1 1955 he fed 60 high producing cows on the pasture without hay or silage, running them six to eight hours daily. He expected volunteer vetch to cover the crop and it did.
