Mail carrier hurt in crash in Ade area

A rural mail carrier sustained a broken arm in a Wednesday morning crash. Robert Mayfield of 730 East 13th was hospitalized at Valley View. He collided with Millacd Lawson of 730 West 4th who was traveling west. Mayfield was charged with failure to yield at a red light.

Roff Schedules 1968 Exercises

Roff High School holds baccalaureate at 1 a m Sunday with Casper Duffer delivering the sermon. Commencement exercises Tuesday at 8 p m feature Dean Bill Tillman as speaker. Valedictorian Jane Davis and salutatorian Glenna Williams are Roff graduates with long campus involvement and leadership in class plays, newspapers, yearbook, and honor societies.

Kiwanis Ada Hosts Summer Swim Program Start

Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada begins registration for the annual summer swimming program on June 5. Applications may be filed at city fee banks before the date, with registration June 5 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oklahoma State Motor Bank. John Oxford announces Lara Miller returns as co director to lead courses taught by Red Cross trained instructors across age groups. Three sessions are planned.

A Hers Attend Round Up At Stillwater

Oklahoma State University hosts the 4th annual H Club Round-Up May 30 to June 2 with 28 44 boys and 77 counties represented. Registration is May 30 42 to 2 pm and events include electric demonstrations dairy foods garden and soil projects, workshop and dress revue with delegates from Latta McLish Ada Stonewall and Byng among others.

Mechanization Field Day Held This Week

The third annual Farm Mechanization Field Days toured from OSU Extension Center and Demonstration in Portland to Oklahoma City. May 17-18 drew more than 100 exhibit spaces and over a million dollars’ worth of machinery on display. Major manufacturers showed tractors and field equipment, plus specialized machines for pecan harvesting Bermuda planting hay bale loading grain handling drying and livestock feeding.

Wildlife Manager Nets Oklahoma Smallmouth State Record

Gets Woods, Wildlife Conservation official in McCurtain County, nabbed a 14 pound 4 ounce smallmouth bass at Mountain Fork River securing a new Oklahoma state record. Earlier he lost a larger fish from the same bridge, then returned to land another big smallmouth and a 1 pound 10 ounce follower. Several other big catches this spring include an 8 pound 4 ounce walleye and two crappies, with one ineligible trotline catch.

Bull Sets New Angus World Record in Nebraska Test

Emulous Para, owned and bred by Carlton Corbin of Fittstown, achieved a 457 pound daily gain average during a Nebraska Angus test at Schuyler. The trial, sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Producers Association, began in December and concluded this week. the prior record was 4.54 pounds set in Holdenville last year. Eldon Flinn of Fittstown led an Iowa bull for fifth in the Angus division.

Ada Marine patrol survives ambush near Khe Sanh

Eight man Marine recon patrol led by Cpl Robin L. Walker held off a two battalion force of North Vietnamese regulars seven of eight wounded. Two CH-46 helicopters evacuated the unit as Walker and Terri Burden were hospitalized in Japan. Walker, 21, from Healdton, Oklahoma, a Healdton High School graduate, is reported improving.

Trio Of Cases Continued Here As Court Term Ends

Continuance of three cases at the end of the current criminal jury term of District Court. defendants Wayne Irvin Byed Donald Dean Evans and Eldon Ray Brandon charged jointly with first degree rape Donnie Gilbert Pierce charged with second degree forgery and Donald Kirkley charged with second degree forgery. Severe Storm Brush Ada and Surrounding Counties

A pair of fast moving storms hit the Ada area bringing rain hail and brief precipitation. Hail up to golf ball size reported in southern Pontotoc County with no major crop or property damage. Tornado and severe weather warnings were issued 3 pm to 9 pm with potential for large hail and damaging winds within about 60 miles of a line from Mineral Wells Texas to Seminole area.
