Cancer Crusade Praise in Paton County Drive

Fred Andrews, chairman of the Cancer Crusade in Paton County, commended residential chairman Oleta Keel and her workers for an outstanding job. Ada contributions total 1,824.90, with a special appeal drive reaching 1.0 and a quoted goal of 3,500. near completion with more effort.

Bowie Ballard Named to National Ford Dealers Council

Bowie Ballard a well known Atlanta dealer has been named as one of 16 dealers to serve on the National Ford Dealers Council. He represents Oklahoma and five surrounding states totaling 874 Southwestern US dealers. Ballard just returned from a Dearborn meeting with Ford officials on dealer and agency issues. The council acts as liaison between consumers and the company and suggests design pricing warranties training and product upgrades. Ballard called the honor outstanding and said he is grateful for the chance to serve. His one year term marks the first time a local dealer has served at the national policy level.

Jim Gammill Lived Schools From Classroom To Maintenance Boss

Ada Schools maintenance supervisor Jim Gammill retires June 30 after 19 years. He taught 23 years prior to maintenance, starting in Arkansas before high school and finishing elementary education later. Born in Mountain View, he worked logging before returning to school at 18 to earn a teaching certificate.

Snakes Invade Baylis and Robbins Homes

Mrs. Bessie Baylis found a six-foot chicken snake in the upper chicken nest area and, with her grandson Spud Phillips, chased it under the house before hoping it died. On another day Mrs. W. R. Robbins heard a KA PLOP and killed a six-foot snake on the front porch with a hoe after it struck near a bird nest under a gable.

Fire destroys vacant Francis house early morning

Firemen battled a blaze at a vacant Francis residence owned by J. L. Knapp. Arriving at 4:55 am, they found the structure already fallen in as the call came in. No injuries reported.

Sooner State Elk Hunt Hearing Planned in Lawton

Oklahoma wildlife officials announce a public hearing on May 6 at 7 30 p m in Central Junior High School auditorium to discuss an experimental elk hunt on Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Game chief Karl Jacobs says the meeting will inform the public about USFWS and ODWC recommendations and gather views on whether hunters or paid hunters will take the surplus elk. Printed material will outline hunt details and all interested persons are urged to attend.
