Pontotoc County March 1941 Board Proceedings Summary
Pontotoc County Commissioners met March 3 1941 with all members present. They approved February minutes January Court Clerk and February County Clerk fees, reinforced steel contract bids for a box culvert, and allowed numerous affidavits and claims. The board adopted a road closure vacating specified sections in Chickasaw Township and opened steel bids on March 20 with Capitol Steel and Iron Co. awarded the contract.

County health officials report the meningitis outbreak is under control after the death of 7 year old Jessie Alexander of 1004 West 13th Street. Her illness blinded her and paralyzed one side. Thirty or so children were isolated or quarantined, but no new cases have shown symptoms as laboratory tests continue.

Ranchers Organize Fire Fight for 50 000 Acres in Oklahoma
In Bartlesville Oklahoma on May 10 a group of Washington County ranchers formed a cooperative fire-fighting system to protect about 50 000 acres of range land. Six trailer units carrying water sprayers sacks and burlap are ready. W F Dancer leads the effort with aides D M Tyler Monsieur Moore Clark Moore Jack Montgomery and Bill Halsell each assigned a trailer. The plan aims to save pastures two thirds of the county from annual fires to boost long term grass production.
