Berlin reports react to U S Secretary of War Stimson remarks that nazism slowed history, calling his speech hysterical and ignorant. German press defends Weimar critique and warns US policy risks widening conflict with England amid threats to attack ships near the blockade.
Eleven year old Kendall Way ne Moffet died in what is ruled an accidental hanging at a farmhouse near Fittstown. His five year old brother Max witnessed the incident and attempted to call for help. The boy, son of H. A. Moffet, fell with a rope caught over a doorway, leaving him a few inches above the ground. Funeral services were held at the Fittstown Baptist church with burial in Franks cemetery. He is survived by his father four brothers and three sisters.
Oil men monitor Ramsey Petroleum test in 27-29 Centrahoma as Cromwell sand test proceeds. Pine being run for a test with potential big oil impact in the area. Joe Josephson No. 1 near Colbert northeast of Ada produces after drilling to 2800 feet, back to 873 feet, shot and flowing naturally at 50 to 100 barrels daily.
Pontotoc county produced 687 910 barrels of oil in March, down from 850 699 barrels in April 1940. The county ranked seventh in state production, behind Oklahoma, Seminole, Pottawatomie, Osage, Creek, and Carter counties, with daily runs and prorated field allocations listed for Allen, Jesse, Fitts field, Cromwell, Hunton, Upper Simpson, and Wilcox.
In Vichy on May 7 the Vice Premier Admiral Darlan and German authorities announced an agreement envisaging a 25 percent reduction in the daily payment for the German army. France’s daily charge would fall from 400 million to 300 million francs, with a slight loosening of restrictions along the demarcation line between occupied and unoccupied France.
The Oklahoma House approved a beer tax raising the barrel rate from $2 to $2.50 and enacted a raised two percent sales tax, with further revenue bills eyed by Floor Leader James R. Rinehart for Senate action. The measures aim to balance the budget, increase gasoline and license taxes, and consider real estate transfer taxes as well.
In New York the Boys Athletic League held an essay contest titled Why I Love Mother but a judges discovered one of 560 anonymous manuscripts titled Why I Don’t Love Mother. The piece lists grievances such as making the writer wash his ears every morning.
In Colorado Springs, Harrison school district election saw a single ballot cast. Eva B. Sinton was re-elected president of the board. A voter entered moments before closing and was not Mrs. Sinton.
Secretary of War Stimson calls for immediate use of the U S navy to secure sea lanes to Britain. He condemns German U boat warfare as illegal and cites the 1917 threat to freedom of the seas. The address, likely coordinated with President Roosevelt, marks a shift toward active naval involvement to protect munitions deliveries.
Moore will be tried in district court on June 2 for the killings of Alf Hardage and Alex Powell after a preliminary hearing in the peace court. Witnesses described Moore forcing the victims into a car and the ensuing chase, with one witness recounting Moore’s outburst and gun in his lap.

Six of Oklahoma's eight Democrats backed the bill, with Rep Boren voting no and Rep Nichols not voting. only Republican Rep Rizley opposed.
A life sized stuffed steer named Whats His Name draws crowds at Ada fire station as it tours ahead of the Ada rodeo set for August at the fair grounds. The display, sans stage fright, heads to Hugo for further promotion while a bystander narrowly avoids a stamping collision.
An Ada week of music features the Horace Mann chorus and ensembles at the college auditorium led by Mrs. Marguerite Hawkinson, and the Napier Negro high school band delivering a first public concert at the Ada armory. Thursday morning includes a National Music Week observance with a concert at the college auditorium under Harlo E. McCall.
The Ada high school general museum adds photographs to form a visual history of the town. Donors include Governor Byrd, W C Rollow, R E Haynes, and a Stonewall woman with 1867 images. Officials seek Ada Reed portrait and welcome further donations to complete the collection.
American League games featured New York over Cleveland 7 to 5, Philadelphia tops St. Louis 6 to 5 in 14 innings, Washington defeats Detroit 4 to 2, and Boston beats Chicago 4 to 3. In the National League Chicago defeats Philadelphia 11 to 2, Brooklyn edges St. Louis 4 to 3, Boston wins 7 to 6 over Pittsburgh, Cincinnati shuts out New York 1 to 0.
Mrs Lem Wheeler planned to spend Mother's Day with her children in Texas but arrived first, beating them to the celebration.
A seven year old girl with meningitis was reported some better at Breco hospital. Isolation remained for 27 classmates on West 13th Street with three siblings under home quarantine. Health officials stressed strict restrictions after moving she to hospital, noting 25 percent fatality in epidemics.
Ada faced a brief summer spell as Tuesday peaked at 86 followed by a cooler 77. Tuesday night fell to 58 with early Wednesday bringing a cool change and two or three short showers before sunrise.
During Boy's Week Ada DeMolays entertained about 200 boys aged 10 to 14 with a free motion picture at a local theatre. Bill Weaver led the committee with Jack Sledge and Roy Click assisting. Refreshments followed the show. The week ends Saturday with a track meet at Norris Field.
London reports Prime Minister Winston Churchill won a sweeping 447 to 3 vote of confidence after a sharp attack from David Lloyd George who urged a real war cabinet and better manpower organization. Churchill defended US aid limits and cited half a million British troops in the Middle East and expected US merchant ships to aid through 1942. He also commented on Turkey in relation to the Dardanelles and Greek islands.
