Jolly and Hahn oil drillers locate a promising oil sand at 741 feet near the Santa Fe depot in Davis I T. The dark green high grade oil is flowing, with a 1659 foot target. An artesian water flow at Rock Creek irrigation is also noted as city plans to pipe it.
Mrs H S Keller reports from South McAlester that the Indian Territory delegation in Louisville impressed spectators. Sponsors Misses Cabell and Fisher wore white and carried parasols as they rode in cottages, with many attributing the IST units as the best showing amid thousands in line from every state.
Fort Sill authorities deny permitting Geronimo to attend the Bliss exhibit on Sunday. It is asserted he was decoyed away from the fort and he refuses to speak about his trip since returning.
Indian Territory veterans and family groups gathered for a Louisville reunion with strong Southern representation. Notable sponsors and maids of honor from Ardmore Muskogee Vinita and Wapanucka attended along with Ada Camp hosts and Trans Mississippi department leaders. The event featured a formal ball with strict dress rules and plans announced for New Orleans to host next year's reunion.
Ardmore Oklahoma Territory June 19 a collision wrecked seventeen Santa Fe cars south of town delaying traffic on the division for about twenty hours A crowd of about fifteen excursionists from Texas spent Sunday night near Arbuckle Mountains awaiting the line’s recovery work and clearance.
In Shawnee Oklahoma June 20 reports say C C Brooks died from lightning Saturday night and at least ten people were killed in the county by the same storm. Gus Schroder a farmer near Shawnee was killed while seated in a wagon under a shed. others are unnamed at this time.
Gabriel Bellew 22 formerly of Amarillo Texas drowned in Grand River at 5 PM Sunday near Muskogee I T after visiting Hyde Park with friends. Walter Jones attempted rescue and nearly drowned. Bellew’s body not recovered as laborers drag the river. mother lives at Tishomingo I T.
Bud Gregg reports Ed Henson and his 10 year old son died when they drove into a raging Blue Creek after rainfall. The father’s body was found 300 yards below the crossing wrapped in willow branches, the boy in shallow water a quarter mile downstream. The wagon was lost while the mules were found alive entangled in a barb wire fence.
A heavy rain began Monday evening and continued into the night. The new street sprinkler helped with dust, but Jupiter Pluvius delivered a heavier downpour, soaking the country and promising a strong early corn yield and widespread crop benefit.
Pauls Valley Oklahoma Territory, June 20. The Pauls Valley Trust Company organized with 100000 capital. Officers include T A Vaughn of Oklahoma City as president and A R Hickman as cashier. Directors list Vaughn Hickman Hallum Myers Lasater Jones Hill Lael and Jones. The Pauls Valley National Bank organized with 25000 capital. Officers include A Vaughn as president, A R Hickman as cashier, J F Myers as vice president. Directors include Jones Lasater Hill Kerr Hallam Myers Lael.
Miss Claudie Hamby arrived back from Hickory this morning, ending a brief trip. She was received at the station by friends and relatives, with greetings noted in local circles.
The Federal Grand Jury meets in Ardmore Oklahoma Territory with Judge Hosea Townsend delivering the charge. Gov. Johnson and prominent tribal officials have been summoned to appear and sensational developments are anticipated following a recent inspection by US Indian Inspector Jenkins in the Chickasaw Nation.
Charles A. Wilson is appointed deputy clerk of the United States court of appeals for Indian Territory effective at once with headquarters at South McAlester.
The Meteor passenger train on the St. Louis and San Francisco line wrecked in Oklahoma City south yards. Engineer Binkley and Fireman Fisher were instantly killed while Express Messenger Jewett suffered severe injuries. Passengers shaken. early reports listed ten dead and thirty injured. Ambulances and twenty surgeons rushed to the scene.
In Joplin Missouri the county awards the pauper burial contract to a local undertaker for one cent per corpse with a ten dollar bonus per case, after a bid tussle in the mining district. Competitors bid nine dollars fifty cents and three dollars forty nine cents.
The body of Marvin Dixon was found hanging by one foot from willow bushes near Wauhillan in Muskogee. He had gone fishing two weeks earlier with a boy named Halcomb and was not seen since. Police suspect foul play as cause of death.
Receiver James A. Willoughby announced the defunct National Bank of Holdenville will pay a 20 percent dividend next month after its March 1904 failure which totaled $16 000. He will seek a Federal Judge to help handle bank failure cases.
The Sapulpa Oil & Gas Company lit Sapulpa's first natural gas lamp at 8 p.m. on the corner of Main Street and Dewey Avenue. For three weeks both Sapulpa Oil and Gas and John Smith Oil & Gas laid pipe, with John Smith having more pipe laid, but Sapulpa Oil and Gas was first to supply gas.
Dr. Ellington, a Muskogee bootlegger, used a Punch and Judy act to smuggle whisky in iron filled doll legs. The doll’s quarts fueled sales in several towns before a deputy marshal, alerted by a bystander remark, arrested him in Wewoka. Authorities call it the most ingenious hidden liquor setup seen.
Monday evening at six o clock lightning struck the residences of Jack Strief on Seventeenth street and J B Redman on Fifteenth street. Mrs Craven and Mrs Striefs mother were inside the first house when struck and knocked from their seats. both were severely shocked. At the Redman house Mrs Redman and her mother were in the yard and not injured. Little damage reported at either location.
Lawton Oklahoma June 20 memorial services were conducted in Snyder for those killed in the May 10 cyclone. Rev M Lann led forenoon rites and graves were decorated at 3 pm in the cemetery with participation from all churches and secret societies.
Co M. Strong of the crop service and weather bureau reports favorable conditions for the week ending June 19. Wheat and oats are being harvested with fair to good yields while corn is laid by in good condition and doing well. Cotton is thriving but damaged by webworms and being worked. Potatoes yield is short but pastures and stock are good.
Citizens of Weleetka Indian Territory prepare for a great celebration on July Fourth. They protest Secretary Hitchcock's handling of territorial affairs, feeling injustice and lack of protection, and decide to fly Old Glory at half mast on the national day.
