G H Angelly presented samples of red top and timothy grass found on the railroad right of way near Ada. He notes timothy bay sells for about twice the price of native prairie hay and asks farmers to favor such profitable forage crops in the region.
A Konawa Tuesday picnic drew about 4000 attendees with music by the Coalgate band, wing contests won by local residents, and a statehood speech by Hon. H. M. Furman of Ada. An afternoon ball game between Konawa and Asher followed other attractions, including a flying balloon stunt and a barbecue spread. Community updates note local visits, births, deaths, and small-town news through Ada and surrounding areas.
Ardmore Oklahoma Territory June 30. Judge Dickerson rules that allottees in the Chickasaw nation have no title to their lands until patents are issued delivered and accepted. Previously certificates of allotment were accepted as equivalent to patents and large areas of Indian land were transferred on this basis.
Ada and Konawa locations of Kotsch & Co. shut by A J Tetrick of Eloy Walker Dry Goods Co with Mrs Kotsch deed of trust. Assets reportedly exceed liabilities, likely paying creditors in full. heaviest debts held by Eloy Walker Dry Goods Co and local bank.
Gould, formerly a citizen of Ada vicinity now of Ashdown I T, visited town this morning and prepaid his News subscription, saying he cannot do without it and likening it to a letter from home.
Four cases disposed in the mayor's court on Monday. Jno Rinard pleaded guilty to scrapping and paid a 6.25 fine. Ben Atwood and one Dower each fined 6.25 for disorderly conduct. T. J. Long charged with disturbing peace found not guilty after trial by jury.
S. T. Wilson is in Francis today on a business mission. Miss Blanche Heidle returned from Ross this morning. C. M. Chauncey attends to business in Hickory today. D. Duncan and family are in the city from Sulphur today. I. Tabor went to Ow and returned today. W. N. Guest and two daughters returned from Ross this morning. A. G. Winn is in Ardmore to J. J. Goodson went to Ardmore this morning. W. T. Martin left today for Oklahoma City.
Governor Johnston of the Chickasaw nation wires Secretary Hitchcock that patents will not be signed yet. He has not conferred with the DC McCurtain matter and demands a satisfactory plan of delivery before patents are signed. His stance pleases business interests.
Oris Weaver offers to share full write ups of the Louisville reunion. He will give a copy to any old veteran who calls at the office.
By request of the secretary of the single statehood executive committee a mass convention of voters in Ada Indian Territory is set for Saturday July 8 1905 at 2 pm to elect 20 delegates and 20 alternates to the Oklahoma City Statehood convention on July 12 1905 The gathering will include 1000 delegates and as many alternates with noted speakers including Bailey Beverage Hamilton Noble Murdock and Calderhead railroads offer a one fare plus fifty cents round trip July 11 14. Otis B Weaver endorses broad attendance.
About fifteen hundred attended the Roff celebration with Atlaites making up about one tenth. The trades display showcased local business pride as Roft floats drew praise. Orators Brother Robert Roland and a young attorney from Rott spoke, while Brother Casteel of Roll Eagle featured a notable float. Ada’s third nine defeated Roff second nine 11 to 10 in a spirited game.
