Francis on the Frisco Centered an Oklahoma Town

Francis grew from a cotton plantation into a railroad hub around the Frisco line. The Harvey House, roundhouse, turntable, and depot drew farmers, merchants, and traveling salesmen, shaping a town that flourished with rail traffic, industry, and evolving commerce through 1918.

Ada Office Aids Indian Conservation Effort in Ada

The Branch of Land Operations within the Bureau of Indian Affairs coordinates soil and land conservation on 41 907 acres across 34 counties in Pontotoc and neighboring areas. Led by soil conservator L. D Alderson, the BLO assists Indian lands and leased plots with pasture improvement, brush control, and seeding of grasses including coastal midland bermuda and clovers. The program emphasizes modern farming methods, equipment, and adaptive grasses to raise rental values and living standards while combating erosion and encroaching weeds.

Jesse Community Pie Supper Benefit at Jesse School

Jesse community hosts a pie supper Saturday night at the Jesse school starting 7 30 p m. Proceeds go to the cemetery fund. Robert Gregory will be auctioneer. Everyone is invited to attend.

Stowe Trial Ends With Hung Jury

A hung jury ended the burglary trial of Billy Jack Stowe 21, charged in the Firestone Store break in Ada last December. The six to six deadlock sent the case to await possible retrial, with Stowe to be brought before Pontotoc District Court Judge John Boyce McKeel. Evidence included police testimony of a man fitting his description entering the store and a chemist's sand particle match linking a coat to the roof crossing.

Vanoss Welcomes New Farm Bureau Field Man

Vanoss High School bids farewell to Pat Gallup a vocational agriculture instructor who leaves in June to join the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation as a field man. Gallup a 1949 Oklahoma A and M graduate is relocating with his wife Leora and three children to DeWitt Town. Thurman Holland will replace him as teacher with Clem Stone remaining on staff.

Hereford Association Tours Hereford Ranches in Oklahoma

The Texas Oklahoma Hereford Association's annual tour on Monday features 50 mile radius Oklahoma herds. It begins 9:30 at Lazy Ranch Springer owned by Phil A. Cornell with its famous Hereford display and Arbuckle Mountains sign. The route includes D C Fitzgeralds top commercial herd and the Goddard Ranch north of Ardmore with its commercial Herefords and wildlife preserve.

Boy Survives Drowning at Ada Park Pool

Paul Ray Floyd nine was pulled from the water at Wintersmith Park pool during Kiwanis summer program. Program director Margaret Bentley Long and Danny French performed rescue and mouth to mouth. Floyd recovered quickly after hospital check. Earlier, he narrowly escaped drowning at a private pool last summer.
