A second NSF funded summer program at East Central State College trains elementary teachers in discovery based science teaching. Don Kellogg and staff use pigs in a film study to challenge fixed ideas and explore observation, inquiry, and definitions with Ada schoolchildren and teachers.

Ticks Flourish In Sooner State
Oklahoma reports a surge of Lone Star American and Gulf Coast ticks due to favorable spring weather. Gulf Coast ticks cover Carter Jefferson Johnston Love Marshall Murray and Pontotoc Counties and attach mainly to cattle ears and brisket. They can impair ear tendons and require direct insecticide treatment. Gulf Coast females may lay as many as 18 000 eggs and ticks are primarily a livestock issue rather to humans.

Vaccinate Your Horses Against Encephalitis Now
Oklahoma horse owners are urged to vaccinate against encephalitis this spring as disease risk from mosquitoes rises. Dr. J H Brashear notes two injections seven to fourteen days apart with a bivalent vaccine protect against eastern and western strains, and the second dose should be given by June 1. Vaccination provides one year of immunity and should be repeated annually.

Konawa to open city clinic in July
Konawa will start a city owned medical clinic in July after the council accepted the building from contractor W L Zwiacher of Konawa and took occupancy. The 23 room facility cost 125000 dollars and will house two doctors M W Vogt and Martin Stokes and longtime dentist F M Dailey with offices.

Heifer Sale for Juniors Set at Chandler Fairgrounds
STILLWATER The first all breed heifer sale for 4H and FFA junior exhibitors is planned for June 28 at Chandler fairgrounds. Twelve consignments cover six major Oklahoma dairy breeds Ayshire Brown Swiss Guernsey Holstein Jersey and Milking Shorthorn. The Purebred Dairy Cattle Association of Oklahoma sponsors the sale to promote the junior dairy program and offers future sale consignments for well developed animals.
