Lightning Kills Cattle In Oklahoma Thunderstorm

A severe storm near Ada Oklahoma killed 19 cattle along US 75 between Calvin and Coalgate. Five head from J Thompson near Ada died as they sheltered under trees during the lightning strike. The loss highlights broader regional livestock fatalities in the same event.

Swine Session Slated in Oklahoma City and Ada

Oklahoma twenty two county southeastern district of the Oklahoma Pork Commission schedules a hog producers meeting at the Fairgrounds Extension and InnAda on June 1. Dr Jay H Brashear state veterinarian will discuss swine health and fights cholera. Commissioner John Gathers Harvey Richardson and others will attend and an election for a three year term will be held. Public invited to attend.

Smith to Receive National Cowboy Hall of Fame Gold Medal

R Smith former secretary of commerce and longtime American Airlines leader will be honored with the Western art World’s highest award at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame ceremony in Oklahoma City. He is cited as a pioneer in both commercial and military aviation and a key early collector and patron of Western art. The May program includes a 7 pm preview of the Fourth Annual Cowboy Artists of America Exhibit and a 2 pm awards banquet at the Shrine.

Oklahoma youths tour Washington on Rural Electric trip

Sixty two Oklahoma high school students joined the Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, traveling from Ada sponsored by Peoples Electric Cooperative. Jesse Green of Pontotoc County is among them, visiting facilities in Memphis and Morristown before arriving in Washington for a Capitol breakfast and a Potomac cruise as part of a week-long program.

Local Youth Dies From Gas Sniffing in Ada

A 19 year old Ada man David Wesley Inman died at 2:10 PM after sniffing refrigerant with another boy who survived. Inman, born May 11 1950 in Ada, was a Latta High School graduate and East Central State College freshman. Police say gas sniffing incidents are rising among local youths and urged parental vigilance.

Heart Specialist Returns To Ada for Two Talks

A former Ada native who pioneered coronary care units will visit Valley View Hospital to inspect the new heart care unit. Dr J Roderick Kitchell, clinical associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania and chief at Abington Memorial Hospital, returns to the region to deliver talks and assess services.

Dairy Princess honors go to Darolyn Butler atSulphur ceremony

Darolyn Jane Butler 19, daughter of Mr and Mrs Dareld Butler of Pauls Valley, was named Southeastern District Dairy Princess during ceremonies at Sulphur on June 5. Malinda Rebecah Mungle from Atoka was first runner up. Both will compete in Tulsa state contest June 23 25. Quincia Beagle crowned state princess.
