Frisco visitors recall bygone days as Stonewall Picnic draws about 300 people. Mrs. Lena Huddleston of Okemah and her daughter Helen Huddleston Osborn, Okemah Daily Leader news editor, visited Tuesday afternoon.
Local notes recount a drive by Mrs. B M Stephens and Mr and Mrs Stephens to Stratford where glasses were misplaced then found. Mrs Stephens resumes wearing her own glasses. Also recalled is Mrs Lena Huddleston and her long teaching career in Indian Territory with stories of a witch doctor incident near Stonewall.
Sunday homecoming at Center drew a modest crowd with old friends and many from Ada and nearby towns. Attendees included Ruth Pike of New Jersey, Duncan’s Kate Austell and son Clif ford, and Stratford’s Mrs. Cooper, with plan to meet again in June 1960.
FRANCIS Edward Scroggins has returned from New York where he met his German bride. They were married in Germany and she saw Oklahoma last Monday for the first time. They will live in Francis. Edward is the son of Mr and Mrs Clellen Scroggins. We extend a hearty welcome to Mrs Edward Scroggins.
Wind swept through Lightning Ridge on Thursday night forcing several residents to storm cellars. The Charles M. Floyd home reported the only damage a broken bathroom window and a toppled outdoor air conditioner unit near the north living room. The rain, though, was well received.
Ada Rodeo Association officers announced Aug 11 to 15 for the Ada show one of the Southwest’s largest. Jim Shoulders will furnish stock and compete in bull riding and bare back bronc, with Ada Kiwanis handling concessions. Also, beef prices are rising while cattle numbers reach record highs, with a potential price drop forecast for late 1961 as herds expand.
Latta alumni banquet scheduled for June 27 in the school gymnasium. Latta grads urged to send in reservations now at 1.50 dollars per person.
Eunice New Mexico visitors Mr and Mrs Harry Wallis and children spent the week with Fred Wallis and Myrtle Morris. Van Williams and children from Waco Texas visited and will return for the family this week. Eva Fish from California visited Stonewall kin for Stonewall Day. Nella Anderson returned from Zanesville Ohio after two weeks with daughter Rob ert Eppley amid health concerns. Mamie Taylor of New Mexico visits her father Lee Taylor and ill relatives. Essie Craddock hosts sister Georgia Tate Midwest City for the week.
Mr and Mrs Carl Watts visit Mr and Mrs Bob Gabberry in Madison Texas after army service abroad. Watts enjoys returning to simple life as plain Mr. with family welcome and quiet town surroundings.
Mrs. Oran Kerr attended the Treas reunion at Lula Sunday. She and the Treas family are double cousins, and the big thrill was seeing relatives for the first time in years.
Recent visitors to the Lilleys in Ada include Mrs. Dena Yates and Mrs. Lola Lilley.
Mrs. Lloyd Goss of Bakersfield California phoned Saturday evening to report her husband was hospitalized there after illness during a mountain vacation. Doctors hoped an operation would be unnecessary.
Miss Irene Donaldson of Connerville is in town as a guest for a local social gathering noting her visit and presence at the event.
Mrs. Clara Terry hosted a weekend gathering with Mrs. Ethel Bailey of Wapanucka and Mrs. Brenda Dees of San Antonio. Bailey's father E M Bellew was an early hardware merchant in Stonewall.
Vernon Younts, an industrial arts teacher, said a faulty step ladder caused his fall last week while building a play house for his son Bobby, leaving him with a broken shoulder. He blamed the ladder and claimed no fault on his part.
Around Duke mentions summer time leave for Mr Younts with a June 22 departure to Dunnigan Missouri to visit Mrs Younts mother. The family plans Kansas City travel June 25 and 26 to see local baseball teams. Clarence Clifton and Mrs Clifton of Frederick visited Mrs Clifton's sister Mrs Arthur Williamson. Mrs Williamsons from Oklahoma City visited over two weeks with relatives at Mrs Williamson's home. The Ritter family plans to leave Anna June 24 for Stone Quarters with pending Gibson clan visit. Various other names and distant locations appear in fragmentary notices.
The note lists visitors settling in IEIM Calif and nearby towns, including Mr and Mrs Kin and son from Kan and Mr and Mrs S from Okla, with extended kin from Beaumont and Sulphur. Mrs Britton returns home with her elder, after a San Bernardino trip, as Miss Dora Daniels improves in Valley View. The Free Will Baptist revival led by Ricky Duncan of Tulsa ends with two professions of faith and strong attendance. Elden Wilson aids family at Valley View Hospital with care demand rising.
Charlie Pace a high school senior design enthusiast drew blueprints for a house requested by friends. He enjoys planning layouts and technical drawing, showcasing talent outside academics.
Mrs Earl Johnson and her sons and Miss Valda Hill visited Mrs Gladys Brockett Tuesday with Saundra and Ronnie. The gathering was described as a real hen party with prolonged conversation leaving Mrs Brockett hoarse from talking.
A Friday closing picnic was held in Glenwood Park as pupils from the First Nazarene Church Ada presented a program that night. Attending from here were Ethelene Golden, Gary, Tessa, Carol, Randy, Debra Kaye Henderson and Robin Hofmann.
