Ada Chamber of Commerce Exposition and Fair Committee discusses expansion options for Pontotoc County Free Fair and Southeast Oklahoma Exposition. Growing exhibitor turnout each September strains the Ada fairgrounds and a future solution is being considered.
The Godfrey family reports nine year old Steve shot and killed a female wolf that had been harassing poultry owned by Dorsey N. Myers, a longtime poultry raiser and grandfather of Steve. After multiple failed attempts by elders, Steve waited about 200 yards from the yard and killed the wolf at dawn on June 12 with a .22 rifle. The incident ends a long series of botched warnings and predator troubles for Myers' flock.
The Vanoss FFA chapter schedules farmers meetings in Pickett on June 18 and Center on June 19. Led by N. L. Hensley the meetings discuss soil conservation practice payments and introduce county farmers to the Soil Conservation Service program.
Agriculture Secretary Ezra Taft Benson shifts stance on soil bank payments. Farmers hit by drought or weather losses may qualify for 1956 soil bank payments under new rules. Rates: 3 cents per pound base, adjusted by county yield, with conditions on land use and weed control. A June 18 meeting for ASC workers is planned as Washington pending details.
The Tupelo Methodist Church announces homecoming on June 24 with an 11 a.m. service replacing the usual 10 a.m. and a covered dish dinner. All members and friends are invited. Pastor is Rev. Ronald Ritchie.
Six separate suits filed in district court seek a total of 121095.50 against Donald Wesley Walker and Lonnie Walker. The incident occurred last November on the Sandy Creek bridge south of Vaness when a parked car triggered a final braking maneuver after a car driven by David Hunt approached the bridge.
County agent C. H. Hailey and assistant Valdene Kozel attend a three week extension summer short course at Oklahoma A&M College Stillwater. The program offers three hours credit toward their masters degrees and aids ongoing staff education. Hailey and Kozel return June 25.

County agent El lis Freeny urges early control of grasshoppers in fields and ditches. He recommends along edges using chlordane or toxaphene at 1 2 pounds per acre with ten day residuals and cautions against grazing stock on treated areas. For faster kills aldrin or dieldrin can be used, with rates depending on hopper size and season, and spraying after first cutting helps limit field spraying.
