Ned Biffle of Allen ranches 260 acres using a multi use pasture system that grows big yellow hop clover and Midland bermuda, supplies seed harvests, cattle grazing, and hay without grain. He plans to harvest about 20 000 pounds of hop clover seed and the same amount of fescue seed, selling at around two dollars a pound. Calves average 479 pounds for heifers and 550 pounds for bulls at weaning with no creep feed or supplement.
Mrs. Mary Cox near Maxwell Cemetery spent weeks arranging a practical memorial project. She painted white concrete blocks with names and dates to mark unmarked plots, placing them flush with ground level to allow mowing over markers and ease maintenance. A new division engineer and assistant division engineer took over duties at the local head quarters of the State Highway Department today. Lawrence S. Hill becomes division engineer replacing LeRoy Berry. Fred Norton is assistant division engineer in charge of maintenance, succeeding Drury Spencer. Hill brings 30 years of service from Duncan and Shawnee. Norton has been with the department since 1946. They reside in Ada at 1225 Scenic Drive and 2300 Woodland Drive respectively. both are married with no children at home.
Five transfer petitions filed in Pontotoc County District Court seek moving children from Fitzhugh and Union Hill to Latta. Plaintiffs allege small schools lack facilities and that boards or Superintendent Mitchell blocked transfers. Judge John Boyce McKeel requested to order relocations.
