Transfer requests rise as seven filed in week
Two more school transfer applications were filed in District Court on Friday. They request moves from Fitzhugh to Latta for Regina and Brenda Mitchusson and Lynda Sue Wingard. The petitions allege denials by the Fitzhugh school board and County Supt. Norman C. Mitchell, bringing total applications that week to seven, with two from Union Hill and five from Fitzhugh.

Ada grandmother artist paints decades of work
Mrs. M. L. Bryant, 78, of 210 East Fourteenth Ada, works across media from porcelain to copper and painting. She began painting in Sherman Texas after the turn of the century at age 16, later teaching herself China painting and other crafts. Her one man show at East Central State College featured twenty two paintings.

Sturdevant Named Circulation Manager at the NEWS
Clinton Sturdevant Jr. was appointed circulation manager and pressroom superintendent of the NEWS, replacing Clyde Alletag who died May 29. Sturdevant, a 17 year NEWS veteran, lives at 1700 North Oak with wife Betty Jean Hiller and two sons, Clinton III and Billy Wayne. He serves on the Metropolitan Area Planning and Zoning Commission.

Joe Geddie, 14, of Ada Route 3, has completed a razor blade radio and a four cell solar power set. Guided by teacher Ralph Machado, he built silicon crystal solar cells from boric acid and alundum, achieving .6 volt from four cells. Joe continuously innovates, cannibalizing parts for new projects, while expanding a back shop and earning praise for his understanding of theory.
