Ada News recalls historic rainfall figures with 1908 at 66.03 inches crowning as champion while 1957 rain is challenged as runner-up. W E Pitt cites records since 1911 and Kansas City archives extend older data. May floods blocked Ada roads and early July brought further washouts, stirring regional memory.
Jewel member of Mrs Elbert Bowers and Mrs Jim King was treated at Valley View Hospital after a train car collision at Sasa. He sustained a severe head injury.
Dr Floyd Curl of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas will be guest speaker at the First Methodist Church service on Sunday morning February 3. The Rev Ronald Ritchie invites the public. Curl has served in Methodist circles 40 years and holds key church roles. the children's chair under Mrs Vernon Younts will debut at the service.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol announces a statewide vehicle inspection during February as part of its 1958 accident prevention program. Troopers will set up mobile check posts across the state to inspect brakes, wipers, steering, exhaust, lights, and licenses, with a safety sticker displayed on windshields. Local detachments will select posts and vary locations. exact times will not be released in advance.
A Hollis grocer, N. W., was visited by two state inspectors who found ungraded eggs on display. After the inspectors left, officials said the grocer posted a sign proclaiming no graded eggs for sale, signaling a violation of the new egg grading law.
Oakman fire destroyed the home of Mr and Mrs D B Mac Magar Saturday afternoon at 1 o clock after they had owned the place a little over a year and completed modern improvements a passerby saved a few clothes a breakfast suite and some meat while the blaze consumed the rest the fire department arrived too late to save the structure Continued on Page 2 Col 8
One hundred two Pontotoc County 4-H members attended record book schools at Rofs and Latta on Tuesday January 26 1958. Ray Parker assistant state 4-H leader led the session stressing the value of records for individual projects county state and national recognition and gave attendees materials to start their record keeping. Mike Lucas a Roff 4-H member who earned a Chicago trip in December 1957 shared his record book that led to the award and described his nine year old goal to win a state 4-H honor and begin working toward it.
Mrs Killen Wilkie aged 81 died recently. She is survived by 13 children, 89 grandchildren, 125 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
The Ada County Excise Board met to discuss the future of the county fair with a broad turnout of farmers ranchers and local residents. Most speakers urged continuing the 42 year old institution and improving facilities possibly with a small tax increase though some urged limits or even a shorter event. A handful advocated ending the fair while others suggested charging admission and diverting related event revenues to fair expenses.
Water damaged first cutting alfalfa hay has caused an ailment in cattle across Oklahoma and into Texas. Dr. Andrew Monlux of Oklahoma State University reports tests confirm a new disease linked to this hay. Investigations continue as cases were first reported in northeastern Oklahoma last December.
