ACP Shows Few Changes in 1948 County Program

The Pontotoc County Agricultural Conservation Program shows minor updates from 1957. Clearing timber is removed from approved practices this year. New 1958 practices include field strip cropping and constructing permanent open drain systems. Acreage limits have been replaced by a $750 per person cost sharing cap, usable for one practice.

Airstrip in Back Yard Enables Wolfe Family Visits

Orville Wolfe, a spray pilot from Oklahoma City, uses a 1500 foot dirt airstrip behind his parents home near Ada to fly in for visits. The strip allows quick 35 minute hops, boosting family time and even supplying fresh eggs from the city branch.

Oil Worker Injured in Drilling Accident Near Vaness

Arlie Neely a 26 year old oil worker from 90 percent West Second Street received a two inch foot injury at 5 30 p m when a drilling collar fell on his left foot at a drilling rig near Vaness. He was treated at Valley View Hospital and is employed by Kingery Drilling Company.

Old Pickup Has Odd Odor And Mellroy's Pajamas Have Hole

Mrs Lloyd Mellroy faced an odd odor episode while doing laundry in the work pickup. After drying and loading into a tub, a jacket placed over the tub ignited the clothes, burning several items including a large hole in Mr Mellroy's new Christmas pajamas.

Rings Returned and Dismissal in Grand Larceny Case

Grand larceny charges against Sue Snell of Filtstown were dismissed on payment of court costs after the rings were recovered by Burl Griffin and turned over to the county attorney. The couple involved included Mai sie Sue Snell and Jackie Sandefur, with the set valued at 165.04 dollars. Margie Sue Snell also filed an application for a beer permit for a location near Ada on SH 99.

Lahoma Sudan Gains Favor With Oklahoma Growers

Lahoma Sudan, bred by the Oklahoma agricultural experiment station, attracts strong statewide demand and exceeds certified seed supplies. It tolerates drought, yields superior hay and seed, grazes well, and can be planted after frost through August, aiding replanting after crop failure.
