In Wapanucka a 21 year old mother Mrs Wande Lee Smith died when her car drifted in motion while she chased a calf that escaped from its pen. Her two year old daughter Belinda Lee was in the front seat but uninjured. The vehicle struck a tree and then a neighbor’s car. Services planned for Tuesday as details await her brother’s arrival from the armed forces.

Farmers Sign Up For 1962 Feed Program
The 1962 Feed Grain Program sign-up began February 5 and runs through March 40. Eligible producers must have grown corn and or grain sorghum in 1959 or 1960 and may participate voluntarily. Sign-ups involve acreage reports, base determinations by the County ASC Committee, and a notice of determinations before an intention to participate is signed with possible 50 percent advance. Acreage diverted cannot be grazed after May 1 nor harvested in 1962.

Jimmy Thomas, seven-eighths Choctaw, lives in a tin-shingled tent on Ahloso High Hill church grounds east of Ada. A 69 year old herbalist who treats pneumonia with catnip salves and hot catnip tea, he follows an all natural diet and outdoor routine. He has served in the U S Army, married five times, plays the violin, and plans a curio shop and a house near his tent.

Christine Linker, tag agent, reports 1962 tag sales ahead of 1961 with nearly 9,400 automobile tags sold by Tuesday. Commercial and farm plates show gains, while tag prices rise 10 cents daily through February until March 3 when price doubles. Penalty currently listed at 219 dollars.
