Farmers Prepare Bermuda Seedbed For Next Month
Kenneth Yoakum, county Soil Conservation Service work unit conservationist, notes some farmers and ranchers are sprigging Bermuda grass while much land awaits plowing. Last year’s Bermuda growth boosted summer grazing and cut winter feed costs. Twenty five acres at 8. Vek, five miles southeast of Ada on SH 3, have begun seed bed prep after plowing and discing. ACP cost sharing for planting grass remains similar to last year. 70 district land breaking applications approved and 32 awaiting approval. Planting slated to begin around March 1.

Shooting Pitts County Man In Hospital
A 25-year-old Pitts County man, living near Ahloso, was hospitalized Sunday afternoon with two gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred three miles south of Fittstown at the home of George Higgs between 1 and 2 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies investigated, with Deputy Cecil Smith noting a party was at Higgs’ place during the afternoon as witnesses described.

Scouts Complete CD Course in Basic Training
Scout cadets from Fittstown civil defense completed a four session basic training course. Instruction covered auto wreck rescues, tornado and war disaster drills, and new closed heart massage and mouth to mouth resuscitation. Teams practiced rescuing victims from simulated collapses and used rope ladders to lower injured people from two story buildings.

Airplane Blamed For Grass Fire Near Ada
Ada firemen fought a pasture blaze at 7 19 p m near Fitzhugh blamed on a low flying airplane. Fire Chief Dudley Young said crews from Ada and Roff stopped the fire with minor building damage. Earlier, a stuck truck at Thompson Chair Factory caused sparks and a vehicle fire on Main and Broadway. Grass fires also reported at T W Jones residence North Bluff.
