Pedersens Pass Bleak December Have Home

Mrs. Chris Pedersen of Midland recalls a fire that destroyed her home on December 6 and notes the strong support from friends and neighbors. Local groups donated clothes and money while the Vaness FFA boys cleared debris and the home was rebuilt on the same site, with the family moving into a six room white frame house last week.

Allen C of C Meeting Allen Residents See Liming Demonstration

The first organized soil fertility effort in years opened with a liming demonstration at Andrew Borders farm near Allen. Carter Bros Liming Co. broadcast 26 tons to 26 acres and 20 acres of bermuda pasture, with ASC cost shares lowering expense. County Agent Cy Hailey reported a goal of 100 soil tests across Allen farms, starting a county-wide lime program beginning here.

County Red Cross Meet Re scheduled

County Red Cross division chairmen J. E. Teague and H. L. Kinsey lead a county wide fundraising push. A dinner at the Aldridge Hotel kicks off the 1962 drive with a county goal of 12000 including Ada business district and residences. Committee chairmen listed across several communities.

Kite Flyers Warned on Dangers Near Power Lines

Kite flyers were cautioned to use safe strings and avoid tinselled cord. J. B. Lynn OG&E manager at Ada warned that wire string could carry electricity from a Sawyer line to a flyer’s hand, causing severe burns. The notice continues on Page Two.

Hopeful Candidates File Here In Pontotoc County

Twenty one candidates have filed for public office in Pontotoc County guiding a growing slate before the Friday deadline. The county election board lists D. Thompson as county clerk, F. Jared as assessor, J. Rae Thompson and J. Boyd as commissioners, and several incumbents including Henry Dew county clerk and Norman C. Mitchell superintendent of schools. At the state level Oklahoma City shows two Pontotoc filings with John Boyce McKeel seeking district judge and Robert W. Ford running for the state senate while Buck Cartwright plans to seek lieutenant governor.

Vegetative Bids Opened for Upper Clear Watershed Contracts

Bids opened Monday at Coalgate for four Upper Clear Boggy Watershed vegetative contracts. Frank Kay Camp of Oklahoma City bid $2,976.24, followed by Bidy Joe Smith of Guthrie with $3,914.2. Work will start on the toma sites 47 35 and 36 within a week, per Dave Roberts, president of the conservancy district and contracting officer.

Conservation Districts Join In Special Week

Pontotoc County will join 87 Sail and Water Conservation Districts in Oklahoma March 4710 observing Sail and Water Conservation District Week. Drexel Sales announced plans for activities including a local TV program and an education meeting at Byng school on March 12. District supervisors from Ada and surrounding areas oversee conservation practices and provide technical assistance to landowners through the SCS office in Ada.
