Eleonore Eppler born in Czechoslovakia now lives in Stonewall recalls fleeing Russians and marrying to seek safety in the United States. She emphasizes the U S feels safe and believes Russians will not cross into the country.
Four Oklahoma elevator projects expand grain storage to handle rising wheat surplus. Yukon adds at least 207000 bushels with a possible expansion to 500000. Geary builds a 200000 bushel concrete elevator. Temple starts a 250000 bushel unit. Watonga upgrades from 350000 to 652000 bushels with new seed cleaning gear.
Jesse residents rallied to remodel repair and enlarge the local elementary school. Principal Cole Underhill and teacher Mrs L J McDonald led efforts alongside teachers parents and other locals. After raising bonds of 3000 the aging building received repainting new heating and improved lighting and running water.
Slippery Willie Beck, an ex convict, eluded pursuit over four days from McKinney Texas to Fittstown Ada and Sulphur before returning to McKinney. He borrowed Sonny Patton’s car parked before a Fittstown church and drove 145 miles with a swapped license plate.
County 4 H officers were elected at the annual 4 H Club Federation in the district courtroom. Thirteen clubs and one club at large Allen were represented as members set 1954 goals. Earnest Lee Sweatt spoke on personality programs and other members addressed awards records, Share the Fun, Model Club Meetings, and livestock topics.
Latta starts a widening of its water system as an eight inch main from West Eighteenth to Highway 19 and a six inch line to the school, with four inch branches to the west south and east. Eleven fire plugs will provide an outlet within 1,000 feet of every home, using city labor and Latta Water Association materials.
Scout Eddie Krajnik has signed a contract that runs through the season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
In a county drive for the American Red Cross, an $11,500 goal is set with kickoff on March 1 led by Dr. A. R. Sugg. Norman Mitchell chairs the rural segment. Ada residential chair is Mrs. Jack Conn, aided by four ward chairmen and about 175 volunteers. Rural areas aim to top $2,400 after last year’s overage.
The Ada Evening News will sponsor the fourth annual All Star Classic featuring senior players from Pontotoc County conference schools. The event is set for Monday February 22 at 7 30 p m in East Central gym. Advance tickets are 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students, available at E and M Clothiers and Corner Drug. Players are chosen by Pontotoc County balloting.
