The seventeenth annual Vanoss FFA and FHA Parent Son-Daughter Banquet occurred February 22 in the Vanoss Hi Auditorium with President Leroy Stonecipher presiding. Special guests, including State Senator Raymond Gary, highlighted the evening as Willa Duckworth and the FHA Sweetheart receive jackets, and awards are presented to FFA and FHA honors recipients. State Contest Opened For High School Essays
Oklahoma high school students may enter a statewide essay contest linked to the Oklahoma Manufacturers Exposition in Tulsa April 14 18. County winners advance to the state contest with first place earning a medallion and second a certificate. First place county winners are judged for the state title with top prizes provided by Douglas Aircraft Company. Entries must be on 8 by 11 inch paper under 500 words and submitted to Norman Mitchell by March 20.

Kickoff Functions Set As Red Cross Prepares for 54 Drive

Residents may see unusual machinery march across land near the end of March as the Oklahoma Mississippi River Products Line begins its 475 mile pipe route. The advance elements will traverse local territory before any construction proceeds.
Medlock calls Pontotoc road meeting for March 2
State Senator Virgil Medlock has scheduled a Pontotoc County road meeting in the district courtroom at 7:30 PM Tuesday March 2. Highway Commissioner Carl LeGeer and other highway officials will attend to discuss a long term county road program and give voters a chance to be heard. The call came at the urging of the Legislative Council committee on roads and highways and the State Highway Commission.

Pontotoc Countians were featured in The Fair telecast airing February 25 at 12 30 pm on WKY TV. The program opened at Homer J Massey pecan grove as Massey discussed deep fertilization surface application and pecan propagation. The second segment covered Reeves Packing plant with Everett Reeves and Bob Daugherty directing the 4 H Club commercial grading school in which the extension livestock specialist demonstrated cattle grades in the yards to about 75 4 H boys in attendance.
