Iowa Beef and Columbia Foods accused of four-state monopoly bid

Grass Fires Rise in Winter Hazard Area

Ada firefighters have battled 13 grass fires this month amid dry conditions and winds. Ten occurred in rural areas. Chief Richard Harris warns the main cause is careless trash burning and urges not to burn trash unless supervised with water nearby.

Women Gain Jobs in Soil Conservation Service

The Soil Conservation Service reports more professional women in career posts within the Agriculture Department. As of Sept 30 the agency employed 13 785 permanent staff with 1 697 women.
