The government plans a mid January meeting with swine industry officials to address a persistent high rate of sulfa drugs found in pork. The FDA and Agriculture Department will call the conference to gather information and stress corrective action.

The Agriculture Department plans rent relief for about 20,000 low income families in Farmers Home Administration financed housing projects. Payments to landlords will reduce rents and may cover tenants utility bills. Qualifying families will pay up to 25 percent of adjusted income. average payment about 850 dollars annually. Landlords apply at local FHA offices. units include farm labor housing financed with administration loans in rural towns up to 10,000 or counties outside big cities.
Senator Robert Dole urged President Carter to halt actions supporting foreign palm oil projects. He cited World Bank financing aiding Indonesia's palm oil expansion despite Carter's stated policy against such aid, arguing it undercuts U.S. soybean farmers and margarine producers.
The Agriculture Department predicts world cocoa bean production for 1977-78 will rise to 1.48 million metric tons, up 9 percent from 1976-77's 1.36 million tons, per the Foreign Agricultural Service.
Farmers can store 1977 wheat and feed grains for up to three years under the price support loan program. The plan seeks a farmer owned U.S. grain reserve of about eight million metric tons of wheat and up to 19 million tons of feed grain with storage payments and loan repayment options tied to cash prices.
Oklahoma wheat officials urge a penny per bushel check off to fund Washington lobbying. Robert Barr of the OWGA says higher funds are needed to compete with labor unions and other groups. Proposal would lift the check off from 0.25 to 1.0 cent. resolution to vote on Saturday.

Winners across speeches demonstrations and posters include Nancy Mullins Byng and Susan Brady New Bethel with multiple top finishes for Latta McLish Byng Vanoss and Roff. James Cornell and Diana Stewart led in senior categories with Dairy King Jimmy LeFlorc and Dairy Queen Diana Stewart named in honors.
