Safeway Plans Ada Store Move Faces Quorum Hurdle

Safeway outlined to Ada City Council Monday night its plan to build a 19 000 square foot store with parking on a downtown block, requiring alley vacation. With two councilmen absent a quorum stalled a vote though several members expressed support. The project covers most of block 107 between Constant and Thirteenth, facing West. The council will reconvene Friday at East Central for a likely quick approval. A waterline break near Echo Ranch prompted repair work, and the Public Works Trust appointed City Attorney Lawrence H. Green as official trust attorney and approved $850 for new dog pound facilities.
