Friends and officials gather at East Central State College for a two part memorial honoring Robert S. Kerr. The service features speeches by Ada attorney G. C. Mayhue and pastor Herschel Hobbs, followed by a burial at Kerr’s birthplace site.
The first production sale at Turner Ranch since its absorption by Winrock Farms brought in 87 740 dollars. Top bull TR Husky Rupert 124 sold for 8000 dollars to Curtiss Breeding Service of Cary Illinois and top heifer TR Tealdo Lass 73 went to Dorland Ranch Las Vegas New Mexico for 2000 dollars. Buyers from Oklahoma Texas Kansas Illinois Minnesota Canada attended as the Turner bloodlines drew Hereford breeders. Average bulls 773 dollars and heifers 808 dollars. about 35 bulls sold for 500 dollars or less, reflecting a buyer range. Local and volume buyers included George Rodanz Ontario Canada Bud Brainard Canadian Tex and the Waggoner Estate Vernon Tex. The Turner ranch was bought by Winthrop Rockefeller last May from Gov. Roy Turner. this sale is the first under Rockefeller management.
James W Huff longtime educator and state legislator dies in a local hospital at 2 12 a m. He was born March 8 1889 in Trenton Texas and moved to Oklahoma in 1903. Huff served in World War I and held multiple teaching and administrative posts including Ada High Latta Cache East Central State College. Continued on Page Four.
Oakman Sportsman's Club held its December meeting in the school gym with a 7 30 p m venison meal barbecued and roasted deer meat. About 60 people attended and new members were welcomed. Guests included Rev and Mrs Chandler Ada Mr and Mrs Lane Mr and Mrs Boiles Johnnie and Janna Fisher and others. Short talks followed the meal and a film was shown.
Pon totoc County prepares to launch a sweeping upgrade of the telephone network with buried storm-proof lines replacing power line carriers. The $304,000 project, run by Southwestern Bell, will serve Ada and rural communities from Francis to Steedman, adding 73 miles of aerial wire and 27 miles of cable along 29 miles of pole lines.
The McLish High junior class sponsors a hootenanny on December 16 at 7 30 p m in the school gym at Fittstown. Participants include East Central State College Murray College and local groups Rhythm Rebels Balladiers Continentals and solo acts. Admission 50 cents adults 25 cents students. proceeds fund the junior and senior banquet.
