The Homer Baptist Church added a 30 by 50 foot concrete block classroom to relieve overflow from the Sunday school. Funded by faith rather than money, the project progressed from empty space to usable rooms in about four to five weeks, with classes already meeting during construction.
The Pontotoc County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee announced the cotton marketing quota referendum committees to run the December 14 vote. All members are cotton farmers eligible to vote, with many also serving as elected community committeemen.
Harden City announces an open house next Thursday December 16 from 6 to 9 p m to commemorate the new Church of Christ parsonage built by church volunteers. Pastor H B Frank Jr leads Harden City church.
A mile long stretch of State Highway 10 through Miami is slated to open about January 1. The project includes a bridge over a small stream on the city’s east side and is reported 88 percent complete.
Pontotoc County pecan growers earned eight prizes at the state pecan show in Pauls Valley on December 7 and 8 with two first place awards. Granville Montgomery claimed both firsts for Money maker pecans and Thomas black walnuts. other Pontotoc winners included E L Patterson, H J Massey, A A Bryant, and Kenneth Harden. Montgomery also placed fifth with Schley. There were 23 Pontotoc exhibits. total show entries reached 375. Okmulgee will host the 1955 show.
The seventh annual Oakman Grade School Basketball Tournament starts next Monday. Games run in three divisions with both boys and girls in Class A and Class B. Class A includes schools with more than two teachers, Class B for schools with fewer than two, and Class C is boys only for players 100 pounds or lighter. Tournament extends through December 16.
Hereford breeders watch the Range Bull Sale at Ardmore set for Saturday noon at the Southern Oklahoma Livestock Sales Pavilion one mile south of Ardmore on Highway 77. A total of 163 bulls are offered by Hereford Heaven breeders including Theo Cash of Pontotoc County consigning 22 bulls sired by TR Zaito Heir 26th.
Initial applications for cost sharing soil and water conservation projects will be taken at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation service office in Ada from December 10 through December 31. Bennett Sherrer ASC director notes the program protects land taken out of allotment crop production. Local meetings to explain the program will be held in Homer December 13 Vanessa December 14 and McLish December 15 at the respective schools.
Carlton Corbin's Stoneybroke Ranch near Fitts town hosts Operation Angus next Tuesday. More than 100 cattle offered including 72 head registered cattle and four bulls. Commercial Angus heifers sold in pen lots five to ten per pen. Consignees include Cedar Hill Ranch Cedar Hill Texas Guy Shipe Shady Springs Ranch and J L Delaplain Ranch.
W. S. Jordan arrives in Ada to lead Pontotoc County Abstract Co. The firm, about 50 years old, continues with C. O. Hunt Jr. as associate. Jordan and his wife, both involved in abstracts, will reside in Ada with four children.
Alumni boys and girls basketball squads meet McLish high school teams at 7:30 p.m. Thursday December 23. Proceeds fund honor jackets for school players.
The Transportation Ministry announced that since April Japanese shipbuilders have secured foreign orders for 37 ships totaling 85 million dollars. The report highlights ongoing demand for Japanese shipbuilding abroad and the ministry's role in monitoring export activity.
Ada's Christmas pageant moved through streets crowded with thousands Monday night marking the third annual Yule celebration. The theme was Glad Tidings with floats depicting events leading to the birth of Christ and choral music accompanied the procession. Rev. Robert Kerekes said about 300 people joined the parade with others assisting behind the scenes. The famed donkey stayed home, preferring dirt to asphalt and concrete.
Thurman Rockwell was arrested in the courthouse on a public drunkenness charge. Undersheriff Oren Phillips signed the complaint against Rockwell. The charges were filed in C. W. Floyd's court.
The Pontotoc County Red Cross chapter plans its quarterly board meeting at 7 30 p m Monday December 13 announced by Gene Smith chapter chairman. The highlight will be a report on the Allen school explosion and all board members are urged to attend.
