The Wilson family, the Morrisons, adopts a buzzard named Buzzy as an unexpected pet. The bird, perched on the roof, watches visitors as locals read the curious tale of this family and their avian companion.
Stonewall High will host Vaness Friday night in the first home game played in the district’s new gym. The event marks the culmination of months of planning since last August as both boys and girls teams prepare to debut in the upgraded facility.
Ada hosts the third annual Christmas pageant at 7 30 p m with theme Glad Tidings. Rev Robert S Kerekes leads the First Lutheran Church committee and 11 floats narrate Christ birth with Caesar Augustus to kings and a final choir Joy to the World. The Ada event is part of a series by local churches. The Stonewall crowd gains new gym seating 800 900 to accommodate fans.
The Oklahoma rural health conference met in Norman with 230 participants including state and county health officials home demonstration leaders nurses and others. Pontotoc county representatives Mills Garrison and Anna Weaver Jones attended. Continal note mentions 15 home demonstration club representatives planning to attend.
An elderly woman, Abbie Emiline Hammilton, drives a self built covered wagon drawn by Dolly Dimples down to an Oil Center church grounds. She claims to be 65 and a missionary who crossed the Great Plains for Jesus. She planned to move on to Texas to settle down after Friday noon.
The annual pie supper and cake walk are planned for the evening of December 8 at Oakman. Proceeds go to the community Christmas tree fund.
William B. Johnson 73 a longtime Pontotoc County stockman and Farm Bureau leader died suddenly Sunday afternoon west of Ada while helping fight a pasture fire. A heart attack caused his death. He served as A A A administrator in Pontotoc and Seminole Counties and leaves his wife Mabel Davis and five children. Funeral Tuesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Ada burial Memorial Park. He was born in Louisville Kentucky and moved to Ada in 1907 continuing farm work and county agricultural service.
The Oklahoma Pecan Growers Association will hold its annual state pecan show in Pauls Valley on December 7 and 8. County agent C H Hailey reports 16 exhibits from Pontotoc County with a goal of 25. The program covers crow control pecan disease and grove thinning with premiums for many pecan varieties and special prizes for the largest collection and seedling pecans. Black walnut prizes listed for several rarities. Exhibits must be in Hailey’s office by noon December 4.
Pontotoc County cotton growers will soon receive notices detailing their 1955 cotton acreage allotments. Notices, prepared by the county ASC, will be mailed before the December 14 quota referendum. Farmers with changes or who will operate a different farm should report promptly to the county ASC.
Pfc Joe Lee Winton was seriously hurt in a car crash near Wynnewood early Thursday while en route home for Thanksgiving. He suffered a broken leg and nose and possible lung injury and was transported to Wynnewood Clinic then Fort Sill Base Hospital. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Gene Winton and his condition was reported as serious but not yet out of danger.
