After a week of play 37 of 40 teams were eliminated in the Roff Grade School basketball tournament. Byng swept Class A with the boys defeating Ahloso 21-16 and the girls winning 44-29. In Class B, Roff beat Homer 26-12.
A one act play Life of the Party will be presented by the McLish sophomore class on Monday December 20 at 7 30 p m in the school auditorium. A Home Economics style show will also be on the program.
Oakman Grade School tournament heads to final Friday games as Byng and Homer secure Class C finals spots with Wednesday wins. Homer defeated Pickett 30-9 and Byng beat Egypt 25-16, with Thursday set for the decisive matches. Class A saw Ahloso beat Homer 40-18, while Class B results put Oakman boys over Egypt 35-13 and Oakman girls over Lawrence 11-10. semifinals Thursday, finals Friday.
Oakman, Ala. sharp shooters will gather at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the stock car race track as the Oakman Sportsman Club hosts a pre holiday turkey shoot. Matches include rifle for grooved tubes and trap shooting for scatter guns with turkeys awarded to winners. If turnout allows, event may become annual with profits funding club projects.

W H Bill Davis of Stonewall retires at 76 after 45 years as a blacksmith. He sold the shop built in 1920 but the forge and tools remain. Born in 1878 in Arkansas, he drifted through Texas before settling in Oklahoma and ending a long trade due to health.
Pontotoc County cotton farmers strongly endorsed ongoing acreage and price controls with a 52 to 2 tally. Only 54 of 171 eligible voters participated, yet results mirrored prior years as the county fixes 1 492 acres for 1955. The new semi rigid controls set prices at 82 and 14 to 90 percent of parity with loan options and CCC sales for depressed markets.
Mrs Mary West post master announces Saturday window hours until 5 pm for stamps and parcels. Sunday window open 2 to 5 pm to speed mail before the Christmas rush. The arrangement aims to get gift parcels and cards mailed ahead of Christmas Day.

Army Private James R Cotton son of Mr and Mrs Tom Cotton Route 2 Alien Oklahoma serves at Fort Jay New York in Headquarters Company. He entered the Army in June 1954 and holds a clerk position.
