Massey Produces Pecans Fit for Human Consumption
Ada Pecan farmer Homer J. Massey irrigated six trees in his two acre pecan orchard to combat drought. After installing a well, he watered July 28 and later, producing 355 pounds valued at $142.60 this year, with 813 pounds worth $258.51 last year from 20 bearing trees. The drought and local wildlife hurt county crops, but Massey’s irrigation proved a partial remedy and boosted production from a small, selected group of trees.
