State Show Draws Local Nut Growers in Bristow
Pontotoc County will send at least 21 pecan samples to OSU for analysis before the State Pecan Show in Bristow December 9 and 10. OSU experts will judge nuts per pound kernel percentage quality color and shelling. The Lula Home Demonstration Club hosted a November banquet with local families in attendance.

Sandy Creekers Open Bids on Flood Control Units
Bids for the first construction unit of the Sandy Creek flood control project were opened Thursday afternoon. The apparent low bid was $146,624.19 from H. S. & B. Contractors of Wewoka, with six bids total. Other bidders included Paul R. Moody Construction Co. of Pauls Valley, M. A. Swatek & Co. of Oklahoma City, and J. L. Putman and Son of Ada. Work is set to begin within 30 days after contract award, with dirt turning expected shortly after the new year.

Mrs Barnes Declines Arkansas Home Choice After Trip
Mrs. Barnes says Arkansas is not for her and she would not live there even if given the land. The Barnes family recently returned from a trip to Arkansas where Mr. Barnes grew up. They planned to keep Oklahoma and perhaps Texas if needed, while transporting Jack to keep it on the road during their drive down Five Mile Mountain.
