Pecan cracking business run by Sulphur woman Lee Mayes
Mrs. Lee Mayes of Sulphur operates a pecan cracking plant at 1213 East Third with five crackers a huller and a blower. She and her husband Marshall Mayes run the shop seven cents a pound under 19 pounds six cents over 100 pounds with a 20 pound minimum. The process uses a hopper chain die bullet and blower to remove hulls and shells and separate meat from shell. The couple stresses safety and accurate weighing to prevent pecan loss and notes the business grew from two crackers seven years ago.

County Pecan Show Yields Mixed Results at Bowie Hall
