Nylon armored vest cuts chest injuries in half in tests
After four and a half months of testing in Korea the Army reports a nylon vest could reduce chest and abdomen wounds by 60 percent. Fourteen hundred eight pound vests underwent Marine Division combat tests from March to mid July. The armor uses 12 nylon layers to stop artillery and grenade fragments, not bullets. An improved version adds longer back to protect the kidneys. Army stats show 35 percent of fatal chest wounds could have been avoided with body armor. One soldier wore three vests at once and still was wounded in the arm.

At a Toronto convention the International Committee of the Red Cross rebuts charges from Red de tractors and outlines a 9000 word report by Paul Ruegger. It says Soviet refusals blocked aid to Russians in German POW camps and notes North Korea also blocks Red Cross access.
