County Gets Grant For New Survey In Pontotoc County

ASC Sets Election For Local Officers
ASC County Chairman B B Conbey announces boundary designations for county community elections to be conducted by mail. Ballots arrive around Sept 6 and must be returned by Sept 19. Three committee members and two alternates per community will be chosen, with delegates to the county convention. Eligibility spans owners, tenants, sharecroppers, and those in charge of farming operations. no racial or religious discrimination. Byng Building Wins HUD Grant For Byng School District
The Byng School District won a 75775 grant from the Housing and Urban Development Department to fund about 101007 in a multi purpose neighborhood building. The center will host Head Start day nursery classes occupational training adult education public health services and recreation. If completed it will be among the nation s most unique facilities and the first neighborhood school property project in the United States per Superintendent Marvin Stokes. Construction is expected to begin around October 1.

World Wheat Crop To Be Large But Not Quite Like Last Year
Washington AP reports the Agriculture Department projects world wheat production will be large this year, possibly not matching last year's 8.3 billion bushels. The U.S. export goal is about 70 million bushels, similar to 1966, with big exporters including United States Canada Australia and Argentina likely to exceed 2.9 billion bushels collectively. Title I Funds Now Available for County Schools
Title I funds totaling 13,263 have been received for use by the county five remaining dependent school districts. County Supt. Norman Mitchell said the funds support a cooperative remedial teaching program run by his office. Two fulltime teachers cover remedial reading and mathematics, rotating among the five schools. A part time staff member completes the program.
