East Central faculty backs state college admission rules

Administrators at East Central State College Ada favor tighter Regents admission standards for Oklahoma four year colleges while cautioning about a potential backdoor route through probation. President Dr Charles F Spencer says the changes may raise overall instruction but doubt enrollment will drop sharply at Ada. Dr E W James notes lower scoring students may shift to other state colleges, and the plan uses ACT results with high school GPA benchmarks. A dissenting view from Dr Edwin Vineyard of Northern Oklahoma College calls the probation provision and grade point threshold a loophole and warns against using high school grades as a sole standard.
