Poultry Tour Highlights Practical Farm Techniques

About 50 local poultrymen toured Pontotoc County farms under County Agent C. H. Hailey and A&M College specialist Alex Warren. Polio Shots Postponed After Vaccine Delay

Dr. Ray A. Northrip, director of the county health unit, says the second in the series of free polio vaccinations for first and second grade children, planned for May 3 and 4, is postponed due to a delay in vaccine delivery. No new date has been set.

Farmers Eye Irrigation for Crop Water Supply

Pontotoc County farmers explore irrigation options after a visit by extension irrigation engineer Robert B. Duffin and county agent C. H. Hailey. Duffin and Hailey conducted preliminary surveys on three county farms to assess possible irrigation installations.

4-H Members Shine at Pontotoc Round-Up in Ada

The Pontotoc County 4 H Club Round-Up in Ada drew 200 girls and 125 boys. David Calvert of Byng set a high school boys division record, winning individual demonstrations and timely speeches and helping Marion Jackson win the team demonstrations. Michael Lucas of Fitzhugh swept the grade school division, winning all three events. Frank Lamirand of Pickett led the rural division, nearly matching the top marks.

Local Cowboys Shine At Chockey Rodeo In Pontotoc County

Pontotoc County cowboys excel at the Chockey rodeo last Sunday with Everett Shaw of Stonewall winning day money in steer roping with 38.6 seconds for two steers and taking matched steer roping with 23.3, 28.5, and 18.9 seconds for 70.7 total. Dick Truitt of Stonewall took second in steer roping with 53.3 seconds and fourth in bulldogging, while Pell McMillian of Ada placed high in other events. McIntire of Limestone Gap placed in steer roping and notable rodeo veteran Johnny McIntire is his father. Tom Neismith, training at Stonewall, won bulldogging with 12 seconds total for two animals, with Truitt third and Mort Hunt fourth.
