Folk around Maxwell community prepare to clean the old cemetery. An informal group formed per Mrs. Bill Fleming with the first work day scheduled for Monday, April 25. volunteers urged to join.
Pontotoc County Future Farmers of America sent 13 members to the three day state FFA convention in Stillwater April 21 23. Two scholars Boyce Jones Vaness and Wil ford Lee Latia chapter were slated for Junior Master Farmer awards presented by Gov. Raymond Gary. To qualify a member must excel in agriculture four years high school maintain high grades and invest in their farming project. Seven hundred twenty applicants vied for 270 Junior Master Farmer degrees with one governor trophy for the Star FFA member.
The Sandy Creek Watershed Association will meet Tuesday at 8 p m in the Ponto toc County courthouse district courtroom. President Harral Allen announces the goal to elect officers and update members on developments including a Soil Conservation Service survey to assess watershed needs under the watershed protection and flood prevention act, with estimated survey time of 6 to 18 months.
Pontotoc County Poultry Tour scheduled for Monday April 25 starts at 9 a.m. from the south side of the county courthouse. County Agent C. H. Hailey and Alex Warren will lead the visit to ten farms showcasing poultry production. Lunch at Ada Country Club at 12:30 p.m. followed by a film on Chick Management. Transportation available for those without cars.
Stonewall Chamber of Commerce will host a fish supper Tuesday night with 314 pounds of catfish in the freezer. Bernard Glover, chamber president, reports Loyd Goss caught the fish awaiting the event.
Larry Heard son of Mr and Mrs B H Heard lives near Horseshoe Ranch in Sunshine. Despite towering land holdings the ten year old boy comes out on top in a study of contrasts as he goes about his day in the fifth grade at the Roff School.
Stonewall annual spring rodeo drew top gate receipts totaling 700 dollars for the Stonewall community building fund aided by good weather and a strong entry of cowboys. Doc Watkins of Madill won 280 dollars in calf roping with a 14 second time, followed by Jim Snively of Pawhuska at 14.8 seconds and Hall Churchill of Stillwater at 15 seconds.
A total of 355 first and second graders from across the county received free polio vaccinations at the First Baptist Church in Ada on Wednesday. Ada students were vaccinated Tuesday and injections were given at Byng and Allen, bringing the county total to the level reported.
Bennett L. Sherrer reports that 1955 wheat acreage measurement in Pontotoc County is nearly complete. ASCS staff have attempted to visit farms with wheat, while continuing pages of notes and updates for the ongoing acreage verification.
