Latta Pony Project yields early foals as cooperative study grows
The Latta pony program begun last June by eight boys with eight Shetland mares is producing results. Three mares owned by Wayne Brown Jerry Sellar and Joe Bob Pruitt have foaled and each foal is a filly. The project is financed by a local bank with guidance from FFA leader J C Pruitt and partner Asa Hutchinson. The plan keeps all proceeds with the bank until notes are retired, totaling about $5 000. The boys show enthusiasm and the mares are kept lean and allowed to forage, focusing on colt development rather than show readiness. Wayne Brown’s foal is about a month old and the first colt to be born in the current group.

FFA Plans Annual Convention at Oklahoma State University
Seven hundred FFA members from 363 chapters will gather April 24 25 at the Oklahoma State University campus for the Oklahoma Association of Future Farmers of America annual convention. They will vote on policy matters elect officers and honor top members with the Governor's Trophy and Junior Master Farmer degrees. Some attendees will remain for agricultural judging contests on Saturday.

Latta and Allen FFA chapters earned high marks at the southeast district interscholastic event at Murray School of Agriculture in Tishomingo. Latta dairy team members Wesley Brantley Van Newton Jerry Beller and Gary Wright placed second among teams. Brantley and Newton are seniors Beller a junior and Wright a sophomore at Jetta High School. Latta poultry judging finished seventh among 21 teams. Danny Joe Lovelace was second high individual.
