About one hundred people attended the Bermuda sprigging demonstration at J. J. Roper Farm southwest of Latta. County agents and soil conservation officials praised Bermuda grass for erosion control and soil health, as Roper rebuilds a worn farm with a ten acre planting and a novel root planter shown by Ance Red Biffle.

Lucas tops district judging meet in Oklahoma event
Mike Lucas wins top spot at the district 4-H land judging contest in Gathcie on April 15. Pontotoc County 4-H finishes third overall, with Pawnee County taking first and Canadian County second. Fourteen 4-H teams competed. Pontotoc’s team places fifth in range judging, Pawnee and Canadian Counties again secure first and second in that event. Lucas ranks ninth individually in the land contest.

Roxie Cantwell, chief of the laboratory at Central State Hospital Norman, oversees about 50 000 tests yearly. The lab performs 45 different tests including seven blood tests and can detect anemia leukemia and rheumatic fever. The facility is an American Society of Clinical Pathologists approved medical technology school.

Rancid Flavor in Milk from Too Rapid Cooling
Oklahoma State University researchers Prof. Paw Johnson and R. J. von Gunten found rapid cooling speeds lipase action in milk, producing rancid flavors. Composite cow samples from discharge end showed no rancidity, while tank samples at milking end tasted rancid. Further tests split milk from individual cows, one portion cooled immediately, the other not.
