J W Hays W J Reed announce by August 15 four new stone buildings will urbanize the West end of Main Street. Two story structures will include an opera house on the upper floors, funded by Reed Hays Cummings and Texas capital, with construction to proceed before summer ends.
The House approved a joint statehood bill for Oklahoma with Indian Territory and for Arizona with New Mexico after a lengthy debate. Delegates Rodey and McGuire supported the measure while Dalzell and Williams criticized it as politically motivated. The rule and vote were strict party lines, with 157-128 and 150-111 margins respectively. Curtis urged broad support from both Indians and whites in Indian Territory.
A shooting affray in North Ada leaves C J Trantham under federal arrest and C H Fisk with a leg wound. The two men exchanged shots after long-standing bad feeling, Trantham fleeing to a brothel tent before capture. Fisk is treated by a physician and is not believed to be seriously hurt.
Robert L. Williams of Durant, candidate for democratic national committeeman, addressed a fair audience Monday night at the Ada Opera House. Judge J. M. Doss introduced him, and Williams praised Alabama and democracy from ancient times to Jefferson, criticizing Republicans and voicing strong partisan resolve despite mixed sentiment in attendance.
A strange case near Edna Kansas in the Cherokee nation reports W H Hancock turning out thirty five head of stock hogs to a new pasture. After feeding on young cockleburrs the entire herd died on the same evening. The burrs acted quickly and caused immediate death.
Ardmore Indian Territory April 21 The Washita presbytery convened yesterday morning with Rev. Duckett of Tishomingo delivering the opening prayer. The first day’s session was mainly business and the meeting drew a large attendance.
Merchants and professionals in Ada launch a piano prize contest awarding the instrument to the church lodge or organization with the most votes. From April 5 to July 26 1904 ballots are cast at the post office box under oath to ensure accurate counting and weekly results in the Ada Evening News. Voting tickets are distributed by local merchants and can be earned with purchases with multiple businesses listed.
At Albany on April 18 the New York Democratic state convention voted 301 to 149 to name Alton B. Parker as the party’s presidential candidate. Tammany was allowed a delegate at large Ehret and alternate plus one of two electors at large, Whitney. The platform pledges unit voting for Parker. A new state committee, led by M. L. Heven of Syracuse, will organize next week and may fill vacancies in electors lists.
Special to The Evening News reports that Hearst is favored to win all New England states as Connecticut backs Hearst and predicts four of them, possibly all. The piece notes opposition by Tammany and Democratic machine factions and cites wide machine influence in New York and state counties.

Snow depths reach eighteen inches in mountain areas around Knoxville with four inches in the city and freezing temperatures. West Kentucky reports six inches of snow causing fruit damage, while Cleveland records 23 degrees above zero the coldest April day in 33 years.
A. J. McFarland and John Frederick were trapped by gas while digging a well on East 10th Street. McFarland and Frederick were pulled to safety after brave rescues by L. H. Woodward, Harry Wright, Tom Atkins, and Tom Bennett. Frederick suffered the worst illness but improved. McFarland regained consciousness.
Manager S. W. Hill reports twenty seven car loads of material for the large compress are now on the building site in the northeast part of town. Workmen arrive daily as construction prep begins.
J Junkin Jr of the Coalgate Cost Company and H W Adams of the Bolen Darnell Coal Company in Dallas arranged that coal from their Indian Territory mines will be delivered to all Oklahoma points at reduced prices. They claim their independent policy will bring cheaper fuel, unlike other Indian Territory coal firms now in the combine.
Ada to host the Territorial Cattlemen’s convention in April 1905 after G M Henley of the Ada Commercial Club received a telegram from John Barringer in Chickasha. The convention voted to hold the next event in Ada with the city pledging support and hospitality.
