Madill Oklahoma April 7 Jim McSarley was shot and killed Wednesday morning three miles southeast of town. Oscar Paris is alleged to have fired the shot during a quarrel over land. Paris allegedly shot McSarley in the mouth breaking the neck. both men were farmers.
Ardmore report from April 5 notes March enlistments to the regular army by city. Oklahoma City 45, Ponca City 21, Ardmore 15, Perry 4, reflecting a regional recruitment effort in Indian Territory and Oklahoma.
Guthrie Oklahoma April 5 after a heavy run Capitol National Bank with 100000 capital stock closed its doors at 2 20 pm and is now in the hands of the currency controller Bad investments blamed the failure The bank held government and territorial deposits totaling over 245114 and a March 21 total of 108550 The presidency of Charles E Billingsley ties the bank to the Holdenville bank failure and a suit by the Fourth National Bank of St Louis for 50 The bank securities included American Bonding Fidelity and Deposit and United States Fidelity and Guaranty of Baltimore
Rev. E A Wesson and wife hosted a tin wedding party with a names in prose contest naming seventy seven authors. Mrs Orch ard guessed sixty seven authors winning a Evan geline volume. Rain ended the celebration as districts report republican wins in South McAlester Purcell Oklahoma City Guthrie Shawnee and other cities with aldermen mayor and police outcomes noted.
Lawton Oklahoma April 5 at noon during the democratic convention Colonel Hawkins sergeant at arms of the legislature was shot three times and fatally wounded by Editor Russell who returned fire without effect. Hawkins died from wounds as Russell was arrested and jailed.
Shawnee Oklahoma April 4. A. G. Cooper liquor dealer won a major whiskey case after the government failed to keep thirty-five barrels seized as moonshine. Barrels stamped 10 to 190 percent were traced to Milton Liquor Company of Milton North Carolina and Jones Company of Louisville. Government indicted Milton and Jones heads and will pursue other defendants. Case to be appealed.
The local lodge of Odd Fellows moves into its newRollow building room on Thursday evening with a Brussels carpeted floor and inscribed emblems. The space features hard oil finished woodwork and portraits and will host the KOPs, WO W, and Fraternal Union among other orders.
A playful comparison in the Denison Herald likens a Katy engine nicknamed Teddy to the Rough Rider at the White House, noting it is always in trouble while the Houston Post adds that its driving wheels must be flat.
Ardmore J T April 6 Col Raymond Herz is appointed office deputy to United States Marshal Colbert. He has served the government in various capacities for twenty years.
Democrats win the entire Ada city ticket by a large margin 17 and vow to enforce the law. Official results list I M King for mayor J P McKee for city attorney G B Johnson for recorder assessor and collector L E Mitchell for city marshal and several candidates for alderman including J D Gaar C C Hargis Jack Shirlen Charles Little Geo A Harrison W S Kerr and R W Fleming the independant candidate. Deputy marshal T E Brents thanks supporters and pledges a clean town and law enforcement.
United States Senator Burton of Kansas was sentenced to six months in Iron County jail and fined $2,500 after conviction for using influence with the post office department to aid Railto Grain & Securities Company of St Louis and receiving payment for services. The judge overruled motions for new trial and for arrest of judgment and delivered the sentence after Burton declined to speak.
Gen Kuropatkin reports a skirmish near Wiju with Japanese losses including five officers killed and several Russian wounded. Yongampho, a Russian settlement, was torched and destroyed by the Japanese. troops involved include volunteers, with Gen Kash talinsky nearby on Matutza island.
The supreme court ruled in favor of William Randolph Hearst in his suit against the coal trust. Hearst gains the right to prosecute and expose the trusts and compel President Bear and partners to produce records and testify. This decision fulfills his pledge to smash the coal trust.
The Logan Glover Piano Co of Oklahoma City announces a citywide vote contest from April 5 to July 26 1904 to award a piano to the church lodge or organization with the most votes. A ballot box at the post office will count votes under oath with weekly results in the Ada Evening News.
