The Democratic Party announces candidates for primaries including United States Senate hopefuls M. L. Turner and Roy Hoffmann, congressional contenders D. H. Linepaula and E. P. His, state representatives Randolph Laurence L. E. Mitchell and Joe L. Thomas, James D. Gaar, J. S. Cannon, and County Judge G. W. Hilton.
Claud Adams aged 14 died at home of Mrs Sallie White on March 2 and was buried March Sun day at Rosedale. Earl Rogers of East Main Street died March 3. Beulah Hopper in North Ada and John Clark in North Ada died March 3 from pneumonia and consumption respectively. Longworth child and Virgil Robinson's eight year old son died March 2 and March 5 at home in Ada area.
A crowd of about two hundred from across the county gathered at Bebee for a dinner hosted by the Anti Horsethief Association. Hon. E P Hill spoke on Indian Territory issues, urging removal of land restrictions and funds disbursement, followed by local candidate remarks.
A committee from the Daughters of the Confederacy and a veterans group are organizing a large dinner tomorrow to aid Ada's old soldiers. Respondents pledge generously, ensuring ample and high quality edibles. Proceeds will serve as a small payment toward the debt owed to the wearers of the gray. The effort marks Ada's first veterans aid enterprise.
J W Warren foreman of an extra gang was shot in the breast with his own pistol by Cog gins who then beat him to death. The assailant fled across a plowed field toward timber but was captured by officers near Ada. Cog gins, commissary clerk, was jailed after the crime, which occurred when the work train stopped at Ahloosa.
The Ada Democratic Club drafts primary rules including mandatory voter oath, Australian ballot use, tickets in judges’ custody, restricted voting booth access, and candidate fees of 10 dollars for most, 1 dollar for aldermen, to be paid before names appear on the ticket. Signed by A J Shirley chairman and other officers.
Francis township Democrats convened in Francis I T March 2 1907 in the mayor's office. W H Hammond was elected chairman and delegate to the county convention with J K Scroggins as alternate. The group endorsed a platform urging tariff for revenue, equal rights, opposition to trusts, support for a new constitution and separate railroad cars and waiting rooms.
Chandler Oklahoma candidate Roy Hoffman declares ambition to represent the new state in the National Senate. A more extended notice is promised next week.
The Democrat party presents Capt. J. C. Cates of Stonewall for the treasurer position in Pontotoc county. His full announcement appears in another column and a more extended notice will follow next week.
Tuesday night J H Cox, returning from Tyrola on a Katy line work train, jumped from the moving car near a crossing and suffered a severe leg break with the bone protruding through the skin.
John Clark of Old Town died after a lingering illness described as Consumption. His funeral was held Sunday and he was laid to rest in Rosedale Cemetery with the honors of the Woodmen of the World, of which he was a faithful member.
Sunday afternoon the local Confederate camp held memorial services for Gen Wilkins and Comrade D H Bottoms. The group marched to the Christian church after 2 PM where Rev E L Kirtley gave a short eulogy and Hon E P Hill of South McAlester delivered an address praising the veterans and their fading ranks. The talk recalled Civil War days and urged honoring the South’s memory.
Hon Randolph Laurence of Roff announces his candidacy for representative in the first legislature of the New State. A long time public servant and former mayor, he is praised for sagacity and business acumen and is presented as a safe choice for Pontotoc County voters.
About forty Third Ward residents gathered at Northside school house to select alderman candidates. Judge Barton elected chairman with W. D. Lowden as secretary. The meeting voted to include Republicans and Socialists as a mass gathering. Five candidates were nominated and J. E. Webb and A. J. Deaton were chosen. It is unclear if they will go before the primary or the city election.
